2012 Elections Gouging Thread

With the election looming in mere months and in light of the extreme price gouging done by firearm/ammunition suppliers/distributors/sellers in 2008, lets highlight the companies to practice this and those who don't. I will not give my hard-earned money to those who attempt to cash-in on fear. One of the companies who I thought really tried to hold the line against this in 2008 was AIM Surplus. I continued to give them my business.

Deja Vu

In the famous words of Yogi Berra, it's Deja Vu all over again.

Four years ago in preparation for the "Democratic Apocalypse" a vast portion of "concerned" citizens began hording anything and everything firearm related. The result was a convergence of unrealistic and, as it turned out, unrealized fear combined with unbridled greed.  A perfect storm with two of humanities worst attributes. Four years later the storm is again gathering on the not so distant horizon.

Stop in to your local gun shop and you'll find bare spots on the shelves and a twinkle in the sales guys eyes when you get ready to check out.  Surf around and you'll see prices rising and a growing number of out of stock items. Fear and Greed are back with a vengeance.

Rest assured that although TDS needs to pay the bills, the BS practice of jacking prices or "gouging" just ain't in the playbook.

Over the past couple years we've actually been able to lower our prices, and increase our inventory solidifying TDS as the #1 source for duty grade ammunition.

As before, TDS isn't willing to risk our reputation for a few extra bucks.

Although none of us have a crystal ball, we all know its going to be an interesting ride. Strap in and hopefully we'll all come out on the other side.

The worst thing about it, is that OUR prices are rising, we're seeing a rise in OUR price, from distributors or wholesalers because of all this fear.  Its tough to make any profit at all, if we keep prices the same.  Until we start to manufacturer our own parts, I see this continually happening to us.  Its really ridiculous.

On the other end, it really is, supply and demand, simple economics, and of course, there are those that do jack up, just to make a profit, but there is always a mix in the two.

The supplies are limited, mainly through government intervention as well, and the demand is getting higher and higher because people feel more uncomfortable with politicians and policies, the economy as well. 

Some of it is legit, some if it isn't.

If people want to boycott ammunition sellers, that is perfectly fine. But how I see it as a capitalist, they are free to charge whatever the hell they want for their product if demand is there. If you or someone else in the market feels they can offer the same product at a more competitive price, they are free to compete with them. -Ofcourse that last statement isn't really true anymore because this socialist marketplace makes it where only giant corporations and buisnesses can compete.

Funny thing is, from what I see, prices are just now coming back up to what they where before the election. Yes there was a massive spike for a year or so following the obmaessiah's election, but for quite some time, ammo was much cheaper than before the election, steel cased .223 was just under 20 cents a round shipped if you shopped around, and brass cased 5.56 was sometimes to be had for right around 30 cents a round shipped.

You can still get steel cased .223 for under $250 shipped if you shop around, and brass cased .223 or 5.56 is around 34 or 35 cents a round shipped depending on the flavor.

Mags and such are still cheaper than ever.

Of course with most people earning less (myself included), and the dollar losing value, it kind of evens out.   



The worst thing I've seen in terms of price increases, at least for the things I pay attention to, is AK-74 mags which have gone to batshit insane levels.
