IMO leave it alone. It will mellow out with age. If you just have to scuff it up: Use brass wool not steel wool. Steel wool rusts. You will never get it all of your rifle.

Trust me on this one, if you wanna take away the sheen then throw some dirt on it lol.  Bro, I use Matte finish and you still cannot see it in the sun till you are within boulder tossing distance.  If you are really worried about it I would either use a real fine sand paper lightly on it or just dust it VERY lightly with the ultra flat.  Either way I would suggest trying whatever you do on a smaller removable part of the rifle first so if you arent happy with that method it wont be too painful to start over or try again.

And Welcome to DIY Weapons and Gear Customization.  Even after doing this... oh about a dozen and a half times I am still learning new things!  Don't let a little set back (if it really IS one) bring your spirits down.

that scotch pad idea sounds the most attractive. (btw it's really NOT that big of a deal, i guess i'm just somewhat of a perfectionist)

You boy have inspired me to paint my rifle.

I've taken JMac's protest into consideration and have not painted it a lovely white/red/pink camo and have chosen what I think is the pattern most likely to avoid unwanted attention.

May I present my LMT.

And yea, I have plenty of paint (besides the tan which ran out  on my last batch of mags) so I am thinking my Save Phace needs a bit of a "makeover"

Just don't want to do it. I'd rather keep the standard stock on it with the 20inch barrel and scope. I have 3 other AK's.

Never really been into painting my stuff. Till today   ???
Found some " rustoleum sand " type paint. Looked and felt bad ass. Might give it a run on something.

Ha, I really have to take some pics of mine now. That's basically the method I used on my Sig and just for kicks on my pellet gun. Painters tape works well, but you can also use a hot glue gun to experiment with shapes. That's a one or two layer job though. I did 5 layers on my Sig using painters tape.
