« on: March 15, 2013, 11:29:18 PM »
Just met a gentleman who was a Young boy during the war in Bosnia. He cleared me for an interview in the near future. What questions would you guys like me to ask?

My gosh, the war in Yugoslavia was the product of hundreds of years of hatred so deep that we couldn't possible fathom it. ANY question you ask would give us priceless historic insight.

But more to the point, I'd like to know one thing: what's the biggest misconception about the war that he would like to see changed?

What a great opportunity!  I'd be curious what items were most limiting to not have access to in a war torn country and what items does he remember most fondly, moral boosters, either during or after the war.
All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

You might want to ask if he heard of or witnessed any unique or memorable guerrilla tactics.

Here are some of my questions:

  • Looking back, were there tell tale signs that lead to the collapse?
What were the 5 most important food items that kept you and your family alive during those years?
What were the top 5 bartering items?
How did you communicate; both sending & receiving?
        - Locally
        - Regionally
        - Nationally
What were the top five skills you (family/group) needed to survive?
What was the best that happened to you/group during the collapse years? Worst?
What was your occupation before the collapse? After?
How many angels can dance on a head of a pin?

I will think of some more...

Ask him about the many factions across Yugoslavia and what were their tactics. I've doing research on the war for years so I would like to know.

I would be interested in getting him to explore and similarities and differences between society at that time compared to ours today. Ask if given the hindsight, what would've he and his family done differently to survive?
