Winches as survival gear
« on: January 09, 2012, 05:40:24 PM »
My buddy recently inherited some money when his father passed away, so he got a year's supply of freeze-dried food for his entire family, stocked up on gear, and ammo.  One of his major priorities was to get his truck in perfect working order.  He got his brakes in tip-top, heavy-duty suspension, new tires, and a winch.  This sucker is rated for 9,000 lbs.  If he gets stuck offroad all he has to do is find a strong tree and pull himself out.  I thought it was a brilliant idea!!! Thank you Mountain for that! I haven't laughed out loud like I just did for months. Thank heavens I didn't have any wine in my mouth as it would have gone everywhere!

Maybe a friendly bet is in order? A quart of NE Lobster bisque for?????

I always thought it the winch can't total the truck then it isn't worth it and snatch blocks just in case you want to total something bigger. ;)

I'm glad I started such an entertaining thread!  But back to the serious part - I just thought my buddy had a great idea and very practical for those who could afford it.  And I didn't see anything about winches on the forum yet... [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

1KM, You are right it is a fantastic tool. You can truss up large animals to dress them, pull just about anything around, pull doors off their hinges, move stalled cars, load heavy shit in the bed and all kinds of other handy stuff, all without undue wear and tear on the running gear of the truck.

I don't own a truck that could proudly wear a.. well I can't afford.. I got no excuse.
