Title: USMC ILBE Assault Pack
Post by: crudos on March 20, 2015, 07:48:07 PM
Anyone have experience with the Marine ILBE Assault Pack. Sturdy enough? What kind of internal organization, if any? Can I dye over the horrible MARPAT camo? Need a new EDC backpack, and the size of the ILBE Pack seems about the right size I'm looking for. Thoughts appreciated.

I love MARPAT Camo. Our groups camo pattern is MARPAT!

It's very big for EDC but if that's what you want go for it. I have used them and they are very comfortable. What else can I say? They are built tough and sturdy. I've seen them tossed around, thrown on the ground, shoved full to the brim with heavy crap, and I've swam with one. They have to be to survive the hell that Marines put them through. I'm not sure about dyeing the marpat, but marpat is very effective on the East Coast.

Now I didn't believe this until I saw it, but the ILBE floats. I can just about ride one down a river like a canoe.

EDIT: Nevermind, you were talking about the assualt pack. It's tough as hell too. Not to comfortable. Just an ordinary back pack. But it gets the job done.

Seems like a lot of the surplus assault packs are in mostly terrible condition, regardless of what the picture shows. Think I might be moving toward a Condor Venture Pack. 5.11 stuff is just too pricey for my pedestrian budget.

5.11 has good quality products. With that you get poor customer service who cares more about their bigger accounts, e.g. Cabelas, Tactical Gear, Gander Mntn, etc. then the normal joe like you and I.

I remembered your hassles with them. Have another 5.11 bag that I need to send in to get fixed by them per their warranty, so that should be fun, not.

Might try looking here. I bought a large and a medium ALICE from Tony a couple of years ago. They were in great shape.

So this is what I ended up getting. Had it a week, and so far, so good. Serves my needs in the role called upon, kinda a get-home bag, and work EDC. Quality is great upon inspection.

Good deal Crudos

Condor makes good stuff. Some of it is made in China but that is all I can afford right now. I have a weird collection of gear. US Military surplus, Condor, Eagle, etc. I believe on spreading my money around no segregationist here ;)

I have 2 packs from Condor, the 3 day assault pack and the Convoy, both are awesome.
Some time ago I had posted a review about the 3 day assault pack.

Please tell us how the Venture works Crudos, I heard that is way bigger than it looks on the screen.

Hey guys, like you I have a fair stack of stuff.  And some I do not need and cannot really use.

Remember that Pay It Forward thread I tried to start.  I have those fly rods given away and will be sending them out the end of the week or so.  Difficult to find the right box for a 4 foot long fishing rod half.

Maybe it would be good for all of us to do an inventory of our stuff.  No one here can disagree with that and I dare you to try.

Then we can begin to sell some stuff we have, share around the nest whats not worth selling and do something everyone agrees is good.  Getting better organized.   Again, I dare you to say thats not a good thing or you cannot be better at it.

Thoughts for everyone to consider.

And one more thing regarding the above.   :coffeeNews:

OK you have thought about it long enough.  Now lets do it.  Powers that be, start this.

Hope you enjoy it and stop spamming the forum about it.

It is quite spacious for it's size, but not overly cumbersome for everyday carrying.
