I find it interesting and for $20, including shipping, it might be worthwhile.

Your thoughts gents?

Well Nemo, as much as I would like to shit on another product you bring to our attention (again)...  :stir:

...I can't find any immediate fault with it.  The price seems right on point.

Minor critique:

A 32 ounce sized bottle and/or a pot may be a little more practical.  The bottle shown appears to be around 16 oz, but I don't think they say anywhere in the ad.

The thing that really got my attention is the collapsible silicone bottle that you can actually set in a fire to boil water in it.  That part is intriguing.  One of these, a canteen and first water is cooling for drinking while second bottle is heating up.

you could save a few pennies if you didn't want the bracelet.

Silicone can take up to about 400 deg F.  so you can boil water in it.

But is that enough to sit in a fire on come coals and flame?  I sure think thats more than 400.

I described it initially as silicone.  I may be inaccurate on that.  I am not sure.

the add showed silicone make.  coals can get much hotter that 400 def F. :) i've melted glass bottles in a fire before.

BUT

In my younger days... last century, i was an honest to goodness boy scout.  One trick/skill we learned was how to boil water in a paper cup.  i'm assuming the same science applies - the water absorbs the heat above 212 deg F and boils it away.  the paper stays at 212 deg F until the water is boiled away - give it a try with a paper cup at your next marsh mellow roast.

That is most interesting, I have never seen or learned that prior.  I would heat rocks and put in the water.

Seems with the paper cups it would do just a few boils.  After that seems there would be too much damage to do more.

Based on that I suspect the silicone would be usable in a fire.

Yes, shanghaiing Nemo's post with this question...

What do you used/used for light in a tent?

If we were going to be on the trail for a week or so, we always carried a candle for light in the tent. At first we used a clamp on ash tray which we affixed to the tent pole. Then we moved to a collapsible candle holder that was a box of sorts that collapsed flat when not in use.

On another note (Sorry Nemo): We moved from a tent, tent to two triangular "half's" of material we bought from the original REI in Seattle. We would tie a piece of parachute cord (550 cord) from a tree to a stake in the ground and throw one of the triangle halfs over the cord. Staked out the corners, then laid down the other triangle as a ground cloth. In the winter we carried an additional small triangle for a door which was secured with clothes pins.

I am sure you younger backpackers have all kinds of fancy tents now.

So what kind of light do you use in your tent?

On short trips, just a flashlight - they didn't want youngish kids with flame in a canvas tent for some reason.   If the trip was longer than a couple or three days, i went to bed early :)  Long trips burned batteries too fast and i didn't want to carry the extra weight.  so the flashlight only got used when there was a need that wouldn't wait for Sol to return.
now i just use the little key fob lights - the batteries they use are tiny and last a long time - red is good for not screwing your night vision too.  I just keep a spare light in my bag and one on my keychain.
for example:

ok.. Kbop and I are the same person.. or so it seems :P

I use the same kind of light in my tent, it is clipped to the gear loft and lives there ie. gets packed up with the tent. Otherwise I am using a head lamp but like he said you really start flying though batteries if you're staying up late and lets face it all the fun stuff to do in the dark is funner in the dark ;)

Also, modern synthetics and open flames are a straight non-starter.

I don't know.  All my experience with modern synthetics and open flames resulted in fast big fire.  How do you get them to be non-starters?

I forgot about tents - I love the goretex bivy bags.  that and a decent mummy bag will do well for my needs.  I'm not a big tent kinda guy - i hate the weight, if on foot.  i would rather set up a tarp to keep the rain/snow off of me and sleep in a bivy bag.  One lesson learned was a military school i went to - i learned how to sleep in a hammock.  in areas that are really humid it will keep you drier.  in areas that are really bug infested - think jungle - it keeps you off the ground.  if you sleep in a hammock in the rain, remember to rig a couple of drip lines so the water doesn't run down the rope and soak your sleeping bag.

Just wanted to test my micro-aggression capabilities.  I think they are up to modern standards for this group.
