In the process of picking up a Taurus PT111 Millenium G2 for CC...

Before you slag off Taurus, been researching this pistol for almost a year and all reports put it as a very high quality firearm and an extra nice price of sub-$350 range, 12+1 rounds, in a compact format. Yeah, the quality of Taurus in the past hasn't always been great, the internet is filled with stories. This was introduced at ShotShow 2013, and seems to be a very underrated, but very good gun. Will post pictures and review when it arrives and have a chance to get some rounds on paper.

My brother owns a Taurus 1911 and he has no complaints. It has never failed him. Although as I have written before, he made me put in my will that when I die he gets my Kimber 1911.

Just a couple of questions you should ask yourself.

1) What is the purpose for the weapon you are going to purchase. The G2 may be great for conceal carry but not as good for a battle
handgun.
2) Is 9mm truly the caliber you want to go with? It might be because you are standardizing the caliber for all of your handguns.
3) Check with Taurus to find out if there is a facility (Range) that has a G2 to try out. There is nothing better than taking her out for a
test spin before you drop the cash on the counter.

I've been stuck on the S&W Shield for a while as my target BUG, but that Taurus is almost as sexy! I have handled the Shield in stores before, but I didn't know Taurus offered this piece. Might have to check one out next time I go to a gun store. I'm looking for a BUG that would ideally be capable of comfortable ankle carry. I'm thinking this would be a bit too large, though, with 12+1 rounds.

1) True it is not a full-size service pistol, but at 12+1, it could serve that purpose in a pinch. I consider it to be a compact service pistol.

2) I am standardizing on 9mm. Best bang for the buck, without resorting to something smaller.
3) Been researching this, agonizingly so, for almost a year. Yeah, it would've been nice to get some hands on with it, so it is a bit of a shot-in-the-dark in that aspect. Hardly any of the gun shops in the area have even heard of it, much less had one in stock to fondle and test out. But am pretty sure I have made the right decisions for my situation.

I had written up a list of other possible pistols, with sizes, weights, round capacity, etc... Was hesitant to jump on the single-stack craze and go with something like the Beretta Nano, XDS, Shield. If I could've found a cheaper (under $400), lightly used Gen 3 or 4 Glock 19, it would've been a really hard decision. So yeah, will see if I made a genius or dumb decision in about a week.

Here's the deal if you can get it for $350- go for it as it is MSRP $439- If you don't like it you can always sell it for $300 to $350 and recoup your $$$$$.

Picked up the pistol this morning. I'm not expert in all-things firearms, but this is one quality weapon. Feels great in the hand, superb workmanship throughout that I've been able to see so far. If this had a S&W or Springfield or Glock logo on it, it would be selling like sliced bacon bread. More info later, and hopefully get some rounds on paper this weekend. Definitely feel I made the right choice, thus far. Taurus has really upped their game a hundred-fold with this one.

Took the pistol out for a function check, and ran 3 mags of Federal fmj through over the weekend, with no problems. Nice natural point of aim, feels great shooting it, and shoots where I pointed it. Didn't have the time to do a full grouping check, just some casual plinking at the various junk people leave behind at the range (pet peeve). Did get one ragged hole more than once, and I'm a terrible shot generally. Now that I have this in-hand, would compare the G2 to a XDS, but with 12+1 capacity. Nothing bad yet, except lack of ammo and time to shoot. Will update this as I get more experience with the firearm.

Holster looks good. I have a similar one from http://aliengearholsters.com/ which I really like. It makes a Hi Power near disappear on my belt from my perspective as well as anyone looking at it. Cost is about half also.

Update: My usual plinking hole has been closed, so haven't been able to get much more trigger time with the G2. Carries great, though having noassatall, holster selection is evolving.

Hey crudos, got some questions for you. I've seen that the pistol is DAO on that forum you referenced, but on the Taurus website it is listed as SA/DA (like my Sig, I'm assuming). Can you please clarify? Also, from point of reference, how would you compare it's width and size to a G26 and S&W Shield?

Yes it is SA/DA, with a second strike capability in case of a bad primer. So that would be the DA part, if that makes sense. My impression is the G2 looks and feels narrower than the G26, even though the measurements say otherwise. G2 definitely shorter overall. To me the Shield and G2 feel pretty close in-hand, the Glock feels fat to me. I can get a decent full grip on the G2. Glock feels like a Glock.

Taurus G2: 22 oz—3.2" barrel—6.24" (length) x 1.22" (width) x 5.1" (height)

SW Shield: 19 oz—3.1" barrel—6.1" (length) x .95" (width) x 4.6" (height)

Glock 26: 21.7 oz—3.42" barrel—6.41" (length) x 1.18" (width) x 4.17" (height)

I guess it would be SA with second strike capability. The G2 is striker-fired, no decocker like a SIG.

Okay, so I'm guessing that it has a shorter trigger pull comparable to the Glock and XD models, which are also striker fired, except that in the G2 if you have a dud, or nothing in the chamber, you can still pull the trigger without racking the slide and have the striker "fire?"

If it is striker fired like the Glocks and XDs, does it have a manual safety, or just the trigger safety? I thought it said on the websites that it has multiple safeties.

I'm sorry, I know these are a lot of questions. I just like to get my info from someone I know, not random Joe's on the net.

The SA trigger on mine is pretty crisp, not sure of the pull weight, but it's pretty reasonable feel. Yeah, you can still pull the trigger if you get a light primer strike/dud or on an empty chamber. It's longer like DA would be with a hammer pistol. There is a trigger safety, ala Glock, and also a very nice thumb safety, that is very unobtrusive if you don't use them, yet easy to click on and off as needed. Glad to answer questions about this pistol. Hope you get a chance to handle one beforehand.

Oh, yes! Sorry! I made my decision. I have been over lots of reviews on different forums, handled them both, and barring getting one in my wife's hands for confirmation I think we're going to get the Shield. I hate biting the bullet on capacity, pun intended, but there were about 1 in 3 reviews of the Millenium Pro that had serious issues that required service by Taurus or by a gunsmith. A couple were more than once. My wife echoed my own thoughts when she said that a firearm that doesn't work when she needs it is useless no matter the capacity. I have to agree. That made our decision for us.

I deeply appreciate all of your input and advice, though. Reviews like yours kept me on the fence for a while, but it seems like there are good batches and bad batches regarding QC down at Taurus.
