? about Stag Arms
« on: March 13, 2012, 04:47:54 AM »
Does any one here have any experience with Stag Arms 5.56/223 platforms. I keep finding some good prices on their AR type platforms, but no real info on their reliability accuracy or durability. Just allot of company sales propaganda and some consumer reviews that I'm not sure i can trust. So I'm asking if anyone here has used or owned one???

My AR is a Stag 2T. I've had it since June of 2011 and I'm about 900 rounds into it with almost entirely steel-case ammo. Never had an issue. On the other hand, my cousin built his weapon from the ground up with all Daniel Defense internals and it fucked up over and over again on our last trip to the desert (although in the gun's defense the BAD lever was probably doing it). My uncle built his gun and he dropped a Stag parts kit and a DD BCG into it and it malfunctioned on the same trip. Just my personal experience. Take it as you will.

LOL this got a lil spirited huh?
I ask because i see alot of stags out there at some fairly reasonable prices.
But a good price on an AR platform could be big trouble for some one in a SHTF situation.
I know some AR platforms are great at the range, but crap out the second they get dirty.
While some colts and Armalites keep on a rockin as long as they are maintained properly.
I guess i would have to get my hands on one before i commited to it. TY for all the feedback guys. [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

Not a bad gun for those reasonable prices.
You're basically talking about a "middle of the road" gun. Stag isn't bad, but they could do better.

It's been a few years since I checked the specs but as far as I know they may still batch test.
That'd be the Barrels, Bolts and carriers. Staking was a little weak.

Another issue is that Stag puts their FSB pins in the opposite way everyone else does...only a problem
if you look pound on 'em before you look at the direction of the taper.

They probly still parkerize the barrel with the FSB on too (model depending).
Not that it's a big deal that there isn't any parkerizing under the FSP...
it just kinda shows you the corners they cut and other don't.

If it were me, I'd have a spare bolt, and maybe a few extractors. They're always good to
have, but you'll likely need them. I smashed a Stag bolt into a million pieces once, but I've also
smashed a RRA to pieces too.

Everything else is fine. Stag shares the same rollmark on their uppers (in some cases lowers)
as every other manufacturer, so those are GTG and made to spec.
