Title: Muzzle brakes, love/hate relationship

I've gone full circle on them myself. When I got into 3Gun heavy I saw the benefits because they do give you an edge in recoil management and so I bought one of the more popular Surefire MB556K (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB8QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.surefire.com%2Fmb556k.html&ei=bfq5U5vDH9CDogS6uoHICQ&usg=AFQjCNFuhcntZpX9-dV4eCVqL3TlVxlTmA&sig2=1zFqL0XU8XG-_gzH3TGCbA&bvm=bv.70138588,d.cGU) with the reasoning that I would eventually get a Surefire Mini for the AR15.  About 6 months later I decided that would likely not happen as I don't want to do the year long wait for a form4 and money has been going to other priorities.

Well now I'm back to thinking a dedicated can for the AR would be nice, but I want to do a form1 build to save some money and looking for a "strike baffle / Muzzle Brake" that is simple (ie. thread on with a centering 45deg shoulder like the Wilson) landed me with the Wilson/Jet (http://www.silencershop.com/shop/wilson-combat-muzzle-brake/) design as shown in the video.

Today was the first time shooting it and it does as good or better a job at recoil management than the MB556K did, but is brutal to anyone on the sides as shown in the slow-mo portion of the clip.  This can be fixed easily though with Wilson's forward funnel attachment  (http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Rapid-Thread-Muzzle-Brake-Blast-Diverter/productinfo/SP-RTMBBD/)but you defeat the recoil management with it attached for the most part.

Group @ 7 yards had 1/2" max vertical stringing with 55gr Extreme over 26.5gr CFE223 moving at 2690fps from this 12.5" LMT 1/7 barrel.

So given the "MO" of this group, I'm wondering if anyone else runs a brake instead of a flash suppressor and why/why not?

Do you feel the faster follow up shots and target tracking with one never out-weighs the flash signature that they create at night?  If you had a can to add, would you run one?

My other carbine is a 16" with and A2 on it.  I will be interested to see video of them side by side next time I get a chance.

Thoughts?
