Jotul Wood Stove Review
« on: January 04, 2012, 11:04:17 AM »
In 1998 I bought a Jotul F 3 CB wood stove: http://www.jotul.us/en-US/wwwjotulus/Main-menu/Products/Wood/Wood-stoves/Jotul-F-3-CB/   for my 1,300 sf home in RI. The plan was to use the wood stove to augment our natural gas furnace.

I keep the furnace thermostat set at 56 degrees (My wife changes it to 68 degrees if I am not home) for those nights when I forget to get up half way through the night to feed the stove I burn the wood stove 24/7 when I am home. It keeps the house a nice toasty 70-72 degrees until the temp out side dips to single digits. I burn about 2 cords a year.

When it was time to buy a wood stove for the BOL we went with a Jotul again. We bought a Series F-500 Oslo wood stove: http://www.jotul.us/en-US/wwwjotulus/Main-menu/Products/Wood/Wood-stoves/Jotul-F-500-Oslo/  The BOL cabin is 1,500 sf with a 900 sf basement (Not heated).

Both stoves are augmented with a ceiling fan which helps to evenly distribute the heat throughout the house (s).

I am at the BOL this week for flint lock deer season. Last night the temp got down to zero degrees farenheit. I fed the stove at about 9ish and when I went to bed the temperature inside was 71 degrees. When I woke up at about 4:30AM to go to the head the temp in the cabin was 59 degrees. I loaded up the stove and went back to bed and when I got up at about 6:30AM the temp was back up to 65 degrees.

I rate both of my Jotul stoves a ?5? on a scale of ?1-5? with ?5? representing the highest rating.

They are great stoves aren't they Johny? Word to the wise, if you leave a kettle on one while it burns it will ruin the finish. Ask me how I know :(
