Okay. Heres my attempt at showing you guys how to remove Tapco stocks from AK-47s and Install them. Now these are best compatible with stamped receivers. Underfolders are not compatible, these include milled receivers, a bottom tang, a slant-cut receiver at the rear, and mak-90s.
First you will need the proper parts and tools.
1. The Stock(s)
2. Appropriate Hardware. 1 1/2 Inch Wood/Drywall screws. 3X
3. Your Choice of Electric Drill.
4. The Damn AK itself.
5. Common Sense
Now I already switched the stocks prior to taking the pics. Its can be done exactly in reverse with Tapco stocks.
Okay, now look at the back of your AK between the stock and the receiver. You'll notice a screw to the back.
Hit the spring button and open up your AKs dust-cover. Slide the spring forward and pull it out.
Now you should be looking at a half way gutted AK. Half stripped is what I call it. Now you should go back and look at that screw towards the back. You'll now see that another screw was hiding about an inch above the first screw, underneath where the receiver spring button was. Both of these are what you want to unscrew.
Now you don't need to be the brightest light bulb to do this part. Just un-screw.
After you get done un-screwing that hardware... stop. Look at this pic showing the two stock styles side by side. Telescoping stock installed, folding not. Like I said, I already finished before I took pics. At the front of the folding stock, you can see how I have a flat base lined up with the rear of the AK, this slides into the AK rear. In and out. Both stocks are the same. Once you have the chosen the stock slid it in. Find the screw holes and check if they are lined up good before screwing. Then, screw it in. You may have some space in between receiver and stock, you may not. Its an easy fix though, just grind where its needed if this problem occurs.
In order to attach a sling of your choosing, you need to screw in one more screw. The sides of the stock attached to the buffer tube have rectangular shapes cut out of both sides. This is so that you can screw in the cut pieces. One side having a long loop for traditional slings and a circle for single point slings .
Once you are finishing up, this is what it should look like.
I decided to swap out the side folding stock for the telescoping, simply because of Length of Pull. The side folders are really long and didn't fit my build. I felt like I was reaching out really far to fire. This tired me out! With a length of pull at 15 inches, no way, not for me. I decided on the 8.5 inch Tapco telescoping stock. I love the feel of my AK being close. Its a perfect fit for me. Oh yeah, both are U.S. 922r compliant. Here are some length comparison pics.
