Good Everyday Battle - Boot
« on: February 25, 2015, 08:13:20 PM »
Since we have a subject on a hiking shoe, lets start one on a battle boot.

I use different boots for different tasks, e.g. hunting, combat, everyday, etc and have several pair in each category. Some of which are cross over boots which helps to keep costs down.

With that written, my favorite pair of boots for hunting that cross over well to training are my Filson boots. Yes they are expensive BUT they are 100% guaranteed over the life of the owner.

My second favorite are my Converse Patriot series with steel toe. These are starting to fall apart and I have probably one more season till they end up in the trash.

The Patriot series are not available anymore so I need a new boot to try out. What are your favorite battle/training boot?

I like Beleville jungle boots issued to the USMC. In basic I was able to see these boots handle alot. I saw several types of boots, mostly Bates. But I was lucky enough to be issued the Bellevilles which I could tell were made to a better quality. The rivets were all steel or some type of metal as opposed to plastic, everything is minimum double stitched while most of the boot is quadruple stitched. They are lightweight and pretty easy to run in. After 3 years of being my everyday shoe, Including running through the mud in basic and around 200 squats a day unloading trucks for Walmart, I only had to replace the soles and patch the leather with some shoe goo. I recommend waterproofing the leather as my sweat soaked into the crevices of the leather and formed a crack in the back of the boot behind the heel. Another good thing about them is they make them in female sizes.

Pretty tough boot, not the best, but you can't beat them for $40 on the surplus market. I had the non steel toe and recently bought the same pair with steel toe, and I prefer the lighter weight of the non steel toe.

I posted about these in the "every day" boot post as well.  The Asolo Fugitive GTX is an outstanding boot that holds up very well while giving excellent support and stay comfortable throughout their life. They are not cheap but they are worth it. My little brother is currently deployed with NSW and they get to choose their own footwear.  A significant majority of his platoon use these as they hold up over the course of ULT followed by a rigorous deployment.

Look good CJS but (There is always a but) I like a higher top boot. 10-12" seems to work good for these old ankles.

Be sure to keep your eyes on the stores like job lot in the northeast or big lots in the south and west. These types of stores buy bulk products that cant be sold in the average retail settings. I have found mislabled welco military boots for excelent prices. Like jungles and standard leg boots for $20. The prices go up too $60 for some of the higher end boots. But $60 for a $250 dollar matterhorn style winter boot is awesome. Just be aware that your gonna have to inspect the boots really well and you may be buying a size 9 thats marked as a 13. But you cant beat the deal with a bat.

Right on WhiskeyJack!  My wife bought a pair of just what you are talking about from Ocean state Job Lot last year. Of course there were no 9.5 or 10's available for me.

Which model of belleville do you ahve?

I also have a belleville model I like but they fall apart of 24 months of garrison use. 18 months if I throw in the occasional field work.

That sounds about right.  Mine were falling apart after 3 years but were still serviceable. I've had to replace the lace, get new soles, patch up the tears in the heel, and two of the kill holes fell out.

I'm using these:
