I could have sworn I showed you guys how to roll your own..
The Emberlit is a fine product "simple and elegant" hits the nail squarely on the head.
I do believe that from our perspective there are better options out there, as example the honey stove allows you to use a trangia or a pop can stove inside of it. This is a huge win in that it allows you to cook without locally sourced fuel or the presence of smoke. Most people want to downplay how important that could be but let us consider the USGI kit for one minute, MREs use a odorless, smokeless chemical heater to heat the meal.. why would they do so if wood smoke wasn't an issue?
I can't speak to all the commercial options on the shelf but I can say you could do a damn sight worse than an Emberlit, having handled one I can say they are quite robust while remaining simple and elegant.
