DRT Penetrating Frangible Ammo
« on: September 08, 2013, 02:21:43 PM »
Anyone tried it? I bought a couple boxes of 9mm to test in my G26. Its 85gr of lead free bullet going about 1400fps. It looks nice on paper. The price is not horrible. I paid $20 for 20 rnds after taxes.

Ah yes, the infamous DRT's.  I too was enamored by their sales pitch.  Came close to buying some... but never did due to a constant barrage of horrible reviews* concerning a litany of faults including:  primers falling out, projectiles falling out, duds, and projectiles always passed through flesh & flesh like targets fully intact (might as well have bought FMJ's).

But please do let us know how they work for you.  Your going to need some ballistic gel to do it right.

*EDIT:  The reviews to which I'm referring are from back when DRT made the 9mm's only in 124gr.  Maybe they have fixed all their problems with the newer 85gr. projectiles.

I'm seeing the reviews you speak of. So far all the gelatin tests prove to do what DRT claims. The penetration is around 6" for the majority of the bullet frags and quite a bit further for the copper base. I'm not a big fan of new unproven gear personally. For me to trust this ammo ill need to do lots of testing. Not sure if I'm that committed to it though.

James yeager also did a video with DRT and they shot gelatin. It performed as claimed. James never personally endorsed this ammo. Since he never did a follow up video of the hog hunt he must still be a corbon man.

Here's a review of speer goldot and DRT in .45 and the DRT performs as claimed. The speer goldot acts like a FMJ.

Here's another gel test
