Discrete ammo satchel?
« on: August 15, 2012, 02:04:06 PM »
Not sure if this item exists or maybe it already does. Here is what I'm looking for...

A discrete ammo carrior bag/satchel. Thinking something the size of a Finnish Gas Mask Bag, but with dividers for magazines inside. Maybe some pistol magazine carriers under the flap of the bag. This would be strictly an ammo bag, in place of throwing on the vest in a shtf situation. Something that could worn under a coat if necessary. Thinking it could hold 6-8 rifle mags, and 4-6 pistol mags. Maybe some small bits of webbing on the outside and a nicely padded shoulder strap. Does this exist already? It might look just like a messenger bag to the untrained eye.

http://originalsoegear.com/15laptopbag.html You can put velcro rifle and pistol cards in the bag. Soe makes the best stuff on the market.
Fan out your shots. We want everyone to get some.

It's a bit big for what I'm thinking. My wife has various sewing machines, maybe I need to figure this out myself (with her help).

Thanks for the SOE link. This is more what I'm thinking of...

But with dividers, maybe a hair bit bigger.

I would definitely go the 'roll your own' route.

You could start out with one of the new style netbook sachels and just add dividers.

if you have one of those gasmask bags you were talking about, you could just add dividers like TG said. I'd go with some sort of elastic material, but that's just a preference. I have the same kind of bag that you're talking about but I don't keep the mask in it anymore and I've been trying to find a use for it because it's kind of an awkward size and shape but you may have just inspired me.  :))

EDIT: scratch that, I don't have the same bag, but I still may use mine for the same purpose. (Dutch)

First we need to establish exactly what you want. 6-8 rifle mags and 4-6 pistol mags arent going under your jacket if you want to look normal. If thats the loadout youd like it must be on the outside of all clothing. If you can manage with less then we can talk under the jacket. If you need that amount then lets talk gear for ontop of all clothing. Now why is it suppose to look discrete? youll be carrying the Rifle for all this ammo anyways right? It seems to me your just searching for a very simple grab and go carrier thats not some goddy vest or something with concealability not really an issue. Is that correct?

More or less right on Ken. I guess I'm not looking for concealability, but rather something more discrete, compared a full-on tactical vest. Obviously, the presence of a rifle would defeat that idea. But rather, my thinking is it would easier to blend in a crowd or chaotic situation. I could be very much blowing smoke out my ass too on this.

or

Tad pricey though.  :o

At least what I'm looking for has a name, "Active Shooter Bag". Still may try and make my own.

O.K. guys I'll remind you all to think outta the box here with one example that I personally used to carry a loaded folding stock AK and 4 extra mags without one out of place glance many years ago.

Tennis racquet bag, don't forget to dress the part, khakis a button up shirt and shoes make it completely believable. If you can locate one with the pouches for a couple of ball cans on the outside they easily hold 2 mags a piece without bad printing.

I just picked up a shooters bag from Wal Mart the other day. It's made by Blackhawk and has a carrying handle as well as a shoulder strap. There are pockets inside that can fit magazines and isn't too big.

Or just get a gas mask bag and customize it yourself.

Inexpensive, good quality and plenty of room.  Now it may appear more tactical than you are looking for but thats when you get creative.   I can give you some tips if you like.

I have personally owned AND carried this bag for almost 2 years now as an extended EDC bag.  This thing has held up great and with a few modifications (my vise  ;D ) it is completely perfect for me.  And by mods I mean that I used shock cord for zipper pulls and as an improved bottle holder as well as removing the extra "HK" style clip to use on a homemade sling.

I would def. recommend this bag for the price and quality.

@OONW
Yeah, I would've rather bought one these cheaper maxpedition knock-off's if they were around back when I forked out big bucks for my maxpedition jumbo.  BUT... on the other hand, after 4+ years of daily use, my bag is still showing ZERO sign of wear.  I'll probably eventually pick up one of these knock-off's anyway.

Updating the thread with some more links....

The J-Tech doesn't really have specific magazine pouches, but still looks like it could carry a fair amount of gear in a tactical situation.
