Title: camo through NV
Post by: Currahee on September 21, 2014, 07:00:25 PM
Been training a good bit recently with NV gear, made a vid with comparisons of gear and camo patterns through NV.

Night Vision Part 6- camouflage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0sLDP1rMEU#ws)

Also put up vids on the NV gear my buds and I use... helmets etc, if you want to check that out.

Burlap wrapping the rifle made a huge difference.

Yes it does, we're thinking about wraps made of old ACUs as well.

Great vid ! I don't have the technology, but this SURE helps in seeing it operate. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Yes - very interesting - also I thank you for posting.

Don't hate me for this - but the sillhouetting (against the evening sky? or was it light pollution from a nearby city?) made any small differences in the camo moot.  A fairer test would be to stand in front of foliage with a similar basic tone.

Does anyone have an IR scope/ cam? I'd love to see what can be done with a space blanket ;)

All of that was shot with woods background.

A space blanket is gonna help with thermal, not NV.  Tin Hat Ranch did some videos on it.

Ah - my mistake.  But then I don't understand - there's still a silhouetting issue...  Why are the woods so 'bright'?  The cammo worked waaay better when folks were standing off to the left.

Not being familiar with this stuff - I assumed your NV was the Starlight type.  Is it the infra-red type with light source?

And of course by IR, I meant thermal - which is also Infra Red - albeit a slightly different part of the spectrum and without the light source :p  So yes foil = worse than useless if you shine a spot light on it  :lmfao:

Thanks for the Tin Hat Ranch recommendation e.g.  http://tinhatranch.com/dronethermal-evasion-cloak-update/#.VCEynpRdVBk (http://tinhatranch.com/dronethermal-evasion-cloak-update/#.VCEynpRdVBk) - less good if you touch it!
There seems to be a bunch of stuff out there :) I should google before asking silly questions :p

Found some Olive Drab - Silver double sided blankets - which could be a good start....

Great Video!  This combined with your NVG vids is a good source of info. As you mentioned it id dark at least 50% of the time so you should understand it. Many people will buy a 2nd or 3rd firearm, back up to a backup comm set, etc. People should definitely consider dropping one of their other redundant items and consider picking up a decent NVG set up.....and most importantly should practice with it.

A good buddy is fond of saying...

"I'd rather you have an SKS and NODs than ten high end ARs"
