Kydex holster prototypes (R&D)
« on: October 20, 2012, 02:55:43 AM »
Decided to take a whack at making kydex good. After a few days of becoming familiar with the characteristics of the material and careful planning, this is what I came up with. My design utilizes heavy duty rivets over the standard eyelets which stands up to more abuse and are more forgiving. If there is enough interest on the forum, I am considering making good for forum members at very reasonable prices and tailor to your needs (such as a holster and double or single mag holder for around $50). I have the resources at the moment to make goods for the fallowing: Glocks in 9,40, or 357 sig, Ruger mark III with heavy barrel or alike, XD 9 or 40, Ruger LC9, AR15 and AKM 47/74 mag holders.  Let me know what you think. As always, all feedback and constructive criticism is welcome.

Shoot me a PM of what features you are looking for such as material thickness; cant or no cant; low, medium, or high sweat guard; right or left handed, ect and we make something happen. I build the holsters so that there is a full, positive grip on the weapon.

Eyelets are a necessary evil, that's why they're used on just about every holster. The spacing
of said eyelets are also standard. It's what makes the holster adaptable, inside/outside the waistband,
compatible with MOLLE/MALICE clips of different types...etc

Just an FYI

Thank you for your input. I understand that about the eyelets but I am going for something that will do one thing well without having to compromise between two that is more robust. This also allows for much lower cost without sacrificing quality. With this design, you do give up the ability to easily convert from an OWB to an IWB. However, it is more mission specific to the needs.

Looks pretty good!

How close do they fit to the body? Or where they built without any concern for concealment?

I have my own DIY project I did recently I'll be posting soon.

If you're making all kinds of kydex stuff, you should try your hand at something like this.

PFCtraining.com - HTC "Low Profile System"
It's better to have it and not need it ...

I had concealment in mind while designing the holster and also implemented folds on the ends that is commonly used by other holster makers to wrap around the body.I the holster fits flush up against me when I wear it. I can conceal a full size glock with a larger shirt or with a jacket what that holster. Coming from a Crossbreed, I prefer this one as I can get a full grip with my thumb around the gun, unlike the Crossbreed. I am planing on making a IWB holster with a smaller profile.
I am looking forward to seeing that you have come up with. Thanks for sharing the Kydex rig. That is truly unique to me and I like the thought of making one for a "going slick" rig.
