If you are going to work on old motors or maintain them after the collapse you need to know how to make paper gaskets. In ROL this trick will save you countless trips to the auto parts store, in WROL this trick will keep your fluids in and the motors running.
You're going to need stuff to do this. As you can tell it's not a lot of stuff!
From left to right I've got Re-positionable Adhesive, a roll of gasket paper (you could use any uncoated thin card stock like flash cards, or the back of a legal pad), an Exacto knive, 220 Grit Sandpaper and the part the gasket fits. I got really lucky on this job because I had an axle shim to use as a pattern for my gaskets.
Make sure your pattern is clean and free of oil. This is something you are going to want to do anyway to make sure that the gasket works.
Spray adhesive on your pattern. A nice light coat will do it.
Lay your pattern on the gasket paper.
And cut it out with your exacto knive.
In this photo I haven't cut out the center yet, I wanted to show that you can and will get a burr on the edge of the paper. Use your sandpaper to clean that up. You need this gasket to be
flat.
You can sharpen a shell case and use a hammer to punch the holes. It works really good. 45apc is perfect for a 3/8" hole.
Make sure your holes are all punched or cut and that all the edges are smooth.
Then peel your gasket off the pattern... carefully!
And there you have it, a pile of gaskets that are a tube of blue goo away from being able to hold fluids!
