Cross-Dominance Cure
« on: September 20, 2012, 09:13:24 PM »
As a result of my right eye being swelled shut for nearly two weeks I became cross dominant, a colossal pain in the ass. So I bought an eye patch and wore that over my left eye for a week and I'm back to normal, well sorta...

Atleast you werent born weak side dominant sighted... lol... that sucks... maybe i should wear an eye patch around the house all the time to hopefully move my dominant eye to the right eye.

If your weak side dominant eye has better vision I wouldn't try switching, just take advantage of it by more weak side weapon practice. In particular try increasing your quick kill sighting speed around obstacles/cover with your rifle. you might be surprised how much quicker you can pick up that little gem of a skill effectively ambidextrous.

A related side note I used to catch hell from "practical shooting" isosceles nazis by occasionally reverting to a one handed pistol shooting habit complete with about a ten degree cant due to my left eye dominance and a few years of rapid fire pistol shooting. Learn it all, find what works for you and keep it in your toolbox. I don't bother arguing with crusaders and one method experts.

I'm forced to be right eye dominant. Back in middle school I was in a fight that left a scar on the retina of my left eye. Doctor said if I had been punched fractions of a mm over, I would be completely blind in my eye. So for the past 7 years, I have had a clusterfuck of blurriness over my left eye that renders me from shooting non-dominant side. Really blows.

I mean, I really don't notice it doing daily chores, but I really need to take extra precaution using power tools and such that I don't mess up my only good eye. It really only affects me when I'm trying to see long distances and the Optometrist said my right eye might be getting worse trying to compensate for my left eye being so fucked.

Man O' man I thought I was the only person with, 'weak side eye dominate' issues. I found out when I bought my first compound bow that I had that infliction.

I was trying out several bows and the sales guy asked me why I was shooting with my left eye closed. I said, I don't know...It's how I have always shot." He went and grabbed a left handed bow and asked me to shoot it with both eyes open. Voila! I hit the target at about 9 O' clock in the 8 ring at 20 yards. Then he gave me the right handed bow back and asked me to fire with both eyes open. Yup I shot  about a foot off of the center of the target.

He then said, "when you have a deer in front of you, you will forget to close your left eye before you release the arrow. Stay with the left handed bow." I did.......

I shoot handguns in my dominate hand but with my left eye. I continue to shoot my rifles & shotguns using my dominate side,  with my weak eye- With my dominate eye closed.   [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

Ya it sucks on the long guns for us. But if Hickok45 can do it so well being weakside dominant we should be fine.

thats his youtube channel name. Hes a retired guy with a gun range in his backyard. Most of his videos he just blasts away. Hes a hell of a shot as you will see. Watch his video on the 590A1 That guy puts slugs on target faster then most do with an AR.Then wstch him hit small steel plates at well over 100 yards with his pistols.
