D.I.Y. Gun Oil.
« on: November 16, 2011, 04:12:21 PM »
Was talking to a good friend of mine.
Ron, thanks for the link man.  http://www.recguns.com/Sources/XC1a.html

I don't use this exact product yet. Right now I'm currently running with 2 mixtures of Hopps #9 one from the early 80's
the other from present. Ammonia, a little bit of water. Rem Oil, CLP, Kerosine. I also use

Bore butter

And I use

Jet lube on my moving parts

I strongly recommend the use of Jet lube, it has been a key part of why my firearms rarely malfunction, Read up on it. Its a high hear lubricant. It's designed for Jet Turbine engines.

A  sheriff's dept. near my old home town used this ultra inexpensive homemade blend:
Equal parts motor oil, transmission fluid and kerosene.

They would just dunk their pistols into vats of this stuff.
Does anyone have any experience with this mixture?

Yeah, it was really good at killing primers if you didn't get the weapon pretty dry and clean. Gomer pyle and "surprise surprise surprise" comes to mind.

Thanks for the heads up.  It is pretty thin and a little heavy on the solvents, so that would make since.  The officer that gave the recipe neglected to tell me about the primers.  Wonder what would happen if the kerosene was left out?

I've been using wheel bearing grease.  Got a can for $6.  Should last most, if not all of my lifetime.

I use high temp, high friction grease that comes in a tube.  3 dollars for a big tube and it only takes a finger tip of the stuff to coat my AK.  Cleaned my AK, applied this and even after all the rapid firing and just letting it sit the grease held up fantastically!  Even when I finally got to cleaning my AK, it was an experiment, there was still a very fine layer of grease on the parts.  The stuff is red, but after catching carbon it turns black, go figure lol, and just keeps on pluggin.  Great stuff, and I use it on my Glock too.

Found a 5 gallon bucket of used motor oil cleaning the basement a few years back, runs like a champ.  [img]http://www.smileydesign.n
