We made these in Boy Scouts out of #10 coffee cans. We even left the botton on (used it as the top) so we didn't need a pan to cook eggs.

I've made some of the best pan cakes I've ever ate on one.

We always just threw in a bunch of good shit, or even would make a cake batter, and wrap it real good in two layers of aluminum foil, and put it in some hot coals for a little while.  When you pulled it out, it was always good.  Probably because you were starving from the hike, but it always worked for us.

One of the past hobo cakes I ever made was that way.

I haven't made one yet, I'll have to get around to it and try it out. It always seems like some of the best eating comes from this kind of stuff.
