Title: DIY Scope protection
Post by: Currahee on July 15, 2013, 12:29:41 PM
Got my PRO in this last month and was wanting something to protect it because I carry the rifle in a tool bag... probably doesn't need it but it makes me feel better.

I priced out scope coats and wait times, but figured I need a project and had a lot of old neoprene sitting around in the form of wetsuits.  I'm always up for an imaginative project.

1) getting a reasonably square piece out of a wetsuit was a bit of a challenge.

2) I've been wanting to try sewing with braided fishing line, I figure it would be good for webbing repairs etc, but I stored some and haven't had a project.  That's a small sailmaker's needle, which turned out pretty good for this.  The neoprene wasn't hard to sew.

3) Finished project.  I put the 550 in there mostly because I wanted to know front from back.  I'll trim the loose ends and put a drop of super glue on them.

Looking good Currahee, I wonder if a piece of thin walled sewer pipe with a tricky little slit cut in it would 'click' onto the mount... I wonder...

Been trying to get some off so I could repaint it, which I will probably do this week (and make a vid.)

Might I suggest Goof Off and a SH*T tone of paper towels lol.  Had to take off about 4 layers of camo from my good Safariland holster so I could use it at work.  Took some time but it worked great.  Oh and you could just do like I did with my AK, might end up with about 9 coats on it but it looked pretty sharp lol
