I've never tried bacon, crayons, olive oil, or crisco shortening, but I have tried liquid canola (which I no longer use for cooking due to it being a GMO) and deemed it not viable for indoor use due to extremely excessive soot... everyone present in an enclosed area would be coughing and gagging in no time flat.

Good to know Special K!  I think if we ever hit a real SHTF scenario we'd be reinventing tallow candles and oil lamps and relearning how to scrub soot off our walls and ceilings.  I certainly wouldn't want to live in sooty London or New York circa early to mid 1800s before gas lighting became predominant followed swiftly by electricity!
