Cooking with nonperishable items
« on: April 22, 2012, 02:05:02 PM »

I just made bread yesterday and it was pretty easy (slightly time consuming) and delicious!
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/amish-white-bread/
All it takes is flour, sugar, oil, salt, water, and yeast.
Neat right!!
I would post pictures but we ate it all before I thought to. haha.

It just occurred to me that while we all store food for a rainy day, some might not know how to put it all to good use. :P I plan on doing a lot more cooking, maybe some neat things to do with other storable stuff so I'll try to update this with more recipes as I find them.

Found another awesome one. This one's only two ingredients: 1 can Libby's Pumpkin mix + 1 box Duncan Hines Spice Cake = DELICIOUS COOKIES/MUFFINS.

Mix until well... thoroughly mixed I guess.

Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes, until edges are crispy and dark brown.

Let cool.

Enjoy.

You can also whip up a delicious Lemon Icing with:
3 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 a TEASPOON vanilla extract

combine and whip until light and fluffy. :)

Thebugoutkid, welcome to the forum! This forum is made up of a eclectic group of preppers that are good people. They wonder off the subject at times however don't let that scare you.  ;)

Second, thanks for your bread recipes. There is nothing better than home made bread! But alas it is time consuming.

Welcome to the forum Bugoutkid.  Thatgirl has been trying to hold the fort down alone, but this place could use more of a lady's touch.  I'm sure that she sometimes feels she is swimming in a sea of testosterone.  We're glad that your here!

BTW great post, I am going to try these muffins.

I've got a weakness in my heart that can only be filled with sweets.

FYI folks, TheBugOutKid has been a member of SP for quite some time, but in the past has only posted periodically.  Maybe the warm welcome will convince her to hang around more often :D [URL=http://www.smileyvault.co

We haven't tried it yet, but the ingredients for BOK's latest recipe post have been procured and I will continue to be nagged relentlessly by TG until I make the muffins :))

Made my first of many "prepper cuisine" meals today for the mrs and I.
A hearty salad of mung beans (from my sprouting cupboard),biltong, tomatoes, mushrooms and cheese (all dried in my new makeshift dehydrator) and dressed with a vinaigrette of homemade red wine vinegar (not made by myself) and dehydrated leeks.
It may have been a bit heavy on the vinegar but filling and good.

Oh yes and my homemade sauerkraut on the side.
