Leave the skin intact as long as possible.
Once it "pops", remove as much of the loose skin as reasonably possible. Use a tiny pair of cuticle scissors if need be. Sterilized scissors not necessary (you'll see why in a minute.)
Apply a medium/thin layer of SILVADENE (SSD/1% silver sulfadiazine cream/prescription only) to the raw skin.
Cover the area with anything from gauze, 2x2's, 4x4's, or in a pinch, anything that will cushion the area will do (paper towel, tissue, cut cloth patch). Then hold in place will FLEXIBLE tape.
SILVADENE is such a power anti-microbial it makes Neosporin look like horse-shit dipped in raw sewage, and will allow for the use of a non-sterile dressing (in a pinch.)
SILVADENE has properties that will force the wound to HEAL MUCH FASTER THAN NORMAL. I have witnessed and experienced this to many times to count. My favorite example was a finger, slammed in a door, skin jaggedly ripped to the bone (yes, bone showing, but not broken.) Since this poor soul had no medical insurance, I did what I could with SILVADENE and Steri-Strips (non-surgical sutures) and a splint. After a few days the gash has sealed itself, and a little over a month there was NO SCAR, YOU COULDN'T DETECT THE WOUND HAD EVER HAPPENED!
NOTICE TO ALL PREPPERS: GET SOME SOME SILVADENE. I've never had a doctor deny a prescription for a 400 gram tub. The next time you or a family member are in for a visit, just tell him you're a prepper and you understand that there is nothing better for healing everyday cuts and scrapes. If he's been a doctor for more than a week, he will know it's true. If he denies your request, find another doctor, even if you have to pay out of pocket. Most insurance won't cover SILVADENE and it's around $50/400 gram tub, but worth every penny. Used sparingly, this can last a family for over a decade. Nevermind the expiration date...I'm still using from a tub that expired in the mid-90's, and it's still as potent as ever.
I consider SILVADENE to be one of my most valued prep items.
