also double up on socks, thinner style on the inside, and thicker on the outside.

You got to address those blisters before they form. When you start to feel a 'hotspot' you need to get your boot off and look around to see if its the sock, something in the boot or just a fit issue. If its something in the boot or the sock got screwed up then powder your foot fix it and drive on. If its a fit issue that will continue then you need to get that mole skin on it post haste.

I don't know of a damn thing you can do once you got a blister besides popping it with something clean (like you are doing) and then bandaging it so that you don't lose that skin right away.

Once you got the blister it is already too late, you know?

me personally i don't like to pop the blister due to a possibility of getting an infection. if this happens then your foot could potentially become fragged especially out deep in the wilderness or in WROL. preemptive care of what Thatguy described is your best bet. what i usually do when i get a blister is put a Band-Aid Advanced Healing Blister (see link at bottom). these things have worked fore me when i did a long walk  and gotten multipole blisters and having to do the same distance walk the next day. when i put theses specialty band-Aid's on they seemed to calm the blister down to where i could not feel any discomfort the next day.

All points so far are well taken.
1. Where womans pantyhose
2. IF YOU HAVE THE TIME ( Stop & check out those hot spots )
3. Swampfox hit the nail on the head. I try not to pop my blisters ever ever. Infection in WROL WILL be a killer. You best bet is to let it heal it self.

get more blisters.
years of playing hockey and only wearing boots has made the heels of my feet tough as nails.

It's ether your boots or your feet haven't toughened up enough yet.

Can't help you on the healing part when i was little i'd rip the skin off and suffer thought the pain for a few days. If it was bleeding or pusing i'd put a bandaid over it which was annoying.

Yeah, Swampfox is right. Don't pop it. Keep it intact as long as possible. As long as it is, it's sterile in there. As soon as it is open, it is susceptible to infection. At that point, a little antiseptic stuff or antibiotic ointment and a clean dressing. Don't tear the skin off, you can play with that a couple days later. Intact, it is healing from underneath. If it pops, let the skin stay there to protect it. The ointment will find it's way in.

I forgot to mention that I only pop them when they are doing that throbbing thing. You can get the extra thick mole skin and cut a donut of that to take some of the pressure off of the fluid filled blister.

Like Vodka is saying getting your skin in shape is key. A daily rub down with rubbing alcohol will help dry and toughen your feet as well as kill fungus which you no doubt have if you've ever used a group shower.

OK this remedy sux ass but it works. I got it from a SF medic back when i was active.

Drain the blister with syringe.

use same syringe and inject iodine into the skinflap

Then gently press the skin back to your foot draining the iodine out of the injection holes.

Hold for about 2 minuets firmly. The skin and your foot will fuse back together making a pseudo callous.

It will feel like your cuterising the wound. I promise you it hurts so fucking bad but as soon as the pain fades( about 1 to 2 mins) away you can walk on it again. The skin underneath will toughen and by the time the top layer sloughs off you will once again have an intact layer that is already callused.

OH yeah..
This only works on fresh blisters. If you try it on a day old blister you resuts wil be less effective. But the wound will be painfully clean for a little while.

Leave the skin intact as long as possible.

Once it "pops", remove as much of the loose skin as reasonably possible.  Use a tiny pair of cuticle scissors if need be.  Sterilized scissors not necessary (you'll see why in a minute.)

Apply a medium/thin layer of SILVADENE (SSD/1% silver sulfadiazine cream/prescription only) to the raw skin.

Cover the area with anything from gauze, 2x2's, 4x4's, or in a pinch, anything that will cushion the area will do (paper towel, tissue, cut cloth patch).  Then hold in place will FLEXIBLE tape.

SILVADENE is such a power anti-microbial it makes Neosporin look like horse-shit dipped in raw sewage, and will allow for the use of a non-sterile dressing (in a pinch.)

SILVADENE has properties that will force the wound to HEAL MUCH FASTER THAN NORMAL.  I have witnessed and experienced this to many times to count.  My favorite example was a finger, slammed in a door, skin jaggedly ripped to the bone (yes, bone showing, but not broken.)  Since this poor soul had no medical insurance, I did what I could with SILVADENE and Steri-Strips (non-surgical sutures) and a splint.   After a few days the gash has sealed itself, and a little over a month there was NO SCAR,  YOU COULDN'T DETECT THE WOUND HAD EVER HAPPENED!

NOTICE TO ALL PREPPERS:  GET SOME SOME SILVADENE.  I've never had a doctor deny a prescription for a 400 gram tub.  The next time you or a family member are in for a visit, just tell him you're a prepper and you understand that there is nothing better for healing everyday cuts and scrapes.  If he's been a doctor for more than a week, he will know it's true.  If he denies your request, find another doctor, even if you have to pay out of pocket.  Most insurance won't cover SILVADENE and it's around $50/400 gram tub, but worth every penny.  Used sparingly, this can last a family for over a decade.  Nevermind the expiration date...I'm still using from a tub that expired in the mid-90's, and it's still as potent as ever.

I consider SILVADENE to be one of my most valued prep items.

One of the most important things to me is taking care of my feet. I've been taught that way ever since I seen Forest Gump.

Funny you would say that.  I know a guy who bow hunts a lot up north.  He wears pantyhose under his camo to keep chiggers out.  He said his buddies make fun of him but he just says "Yeah, you guys are really bad asses.  But look who can't stop scratching their balls!".  LOL!

Reaver is right on, you got to take care of your feet first and for most. Walking is the only means of transportation that you actually own. Everything else is just borrowed.

well im pretty positive ive posted a topic on these little dicks before...but since then i have come up with my own method of treating them i really like.

what i do is, wait until it swells (if you can if not just do it right away) so then i take a sewing needle, close pin ect... burn it a bit, pop the blister, get the stuff out, and make a decent sized hole in the damaged skin, rub some hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol (shit really sucks but i cleans it and dries it out pretty fast)  then i leave it be, i would have used some mole skin "donuts" if i had some.

i was just told about new method today, i might try but im doing a land nav range on thurs and dont want to have blisters going into that...

To fully sterilize the need you need to put some medical alcohol on it.

I leave the blisters un popped aslong as possible because once it pops it sucks. For me lacing my boots tight as possible without pain or cutting off blood flow helps a lot. If you get rid of the friction between foot and boot then theres no blisters. Some say wearing two pairs of socks help as it gives another peice of material for your foot to move on.

Here's another little nugget for y'all:
Switch to hypo-allergenic laundry products.  The irritation from residual chemicals left by perfumes and dyes, combined with excessive friction, can contribute more than you think to the formation of blisters.
