Ok, yeah a little dramatic title, but I want to to talk about squib loads. I have loaded up a few tonight and want to know what you other loaders do to prevent squibs, I will wait to chime in. This is a serious issue and for you guys that have a reloader and havent started loading or are thinking of loading squibs are a serious issue. In the heat of battle alot of people dont even notice an empty rifle, so say we are "rolling our own" and we squib one. Thoughts????

I load carefully anyway so it's charge the cases in a loading block and do a visual inspection on every case in the  block. Just a personal habit.

As a side note I do buy loose ammo cheap when I find it but strip the components down and dump the unknown to me powder into a label stripped clearly marked waste powder can for future "disposal".

Like Colombo says, us a loading block instead of one of those fancy progressive presses. You will never know that you produced a dud and a double with one of those machines.

I suspect you could weigh the finished round after the fact but....

The guy I buy ammo off of does what TG recommend; he weighs each finished cartridge. I use the 'block / inspection' method.

Now on another note: I have shot a few rounds of black powder down range in my life time. I have a terrible habit of talking to spectators at the range while loading. So yes I have loaded some "squibs."  [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at

The way I go about it is as follows,

I place a primed case on my digital scale and zero it, I charge said case and place it back on the scale so I know exactly what it has in it.

Sure there is a 'range' for most of my rounds but that allows me to know that I am not over nor under.
