Went to a gun show a couple weeks back and got a Mossberg 802 bolt action 22 with a camo stock, single mag and 4x Bushnell (fairly cheapo) scope.

Took it to the range today first firing of it.  Shooting from a wobbly bench with a rifle I didn't know, I was getting 2" groups at 50 yards and the same at 100.  But the 50 yard groups were spot on target and aim point but the 100 yard groups were 6-7 inches low.

Same bench, same ammo, same everything.  But that far low with no touch to scope dials.

WTH is going on with this.

Also the mag is loose in the well and needs to be in the right position.  It cannot get moved over or too much hand on it or any such.  It jams more than about any other rifle I have. 

I am beginning to think this is selling material.  But I really want a good 22 bolt action.

Now I haven't shot a .22 past 50 yards in awhile however I would assume it would be the normal drop for a .22 at 100 yards. Check out a ballistic table.

Here is one. Notice the zero is 59 yards not 50 yards and there is a ~5" drop at 100 yards.

It's a very light bullet that goes subsonic at short range. A 9mm bullet would likely perform better but you wouldn't be surprised to see 6 inches of drop with your pistol at 100 yards, right?

 With my Ruger 10/22 It takes 42 clicks up  with stinger ammo from 50 to 100 yrds.

I had no idea or thought about 6" drop in 22 going the second 50 yards.  According to that chart I think I will do some exploring to find a chart for my Federal stuff.

Wifes dad made me take  him to a Gander Mountain new store opening 2 weeks before Sandy Hook and they had the 525 round boxes of the Federal on promo sale for $15 a box.  He made me take home 20 boxes.

I have a bit left but had to sell most of it for the scripts and docs and such.  I really felt bad selling those for $60 to $75 each.  But you do what you gotta do.

Dayum, simple bullet drop of that much in that part.  Dayum.

Definitely just the fact that you are shooting .22 cal.  Even high velocity rounds like Stinger and Velocitor by CCI will drop approx 4" at 100yds.  Federal Std velocity .22cal is known to be fairly slow. Many semi autos will not function with it. Dropping 5-6" does not surprise me.

If you are having that kind of issue with your magazine and can not get it to feed properly then get rid of it.  If you want a good reliable .22 bolt gun look at either Savage or CZ.  Marlin also has a decent inexpensive .22 bolt action.
