M1 Carbine
« on: August 30, 2011, 04:57:21 PM »
I've had an itch for one of these for a long time. It's at the top of my wish-list. In all the small weapons I've handled I have yet to find such a great blend of balance, ergonomics, reliability and firepower (for a weapon designed to be used at 200 yards). A lot of your are probably rolling your eyes right now, but I feel this gun would be great as a backup/suburb patrol weapon.

Unfortunately, due to a change in my circumstances, I've been forced to restrain myself until next year to make any new purchases. Keep me in your prayers 'cause that's going to be hard to do  ;D

Note: It turns out that Gordon Ingram, same guy who helped popularize the MAC-10 and 11, designed an M1 Carbine derivative called the SAM-1 designed to fire 5.56 ammo. Sadly, they were never put into production.

RON L here

On this one, I have to Dis-agree with ya!! My Dad was a Big fan of these and as a replacement for a Side arm lie the 45 Pistol or a Revolver it works, But M-1-2 Carbine suffers in the hitting power dept unless you use Soft Points and or H.P. and not amLot of that ammo floating around unless you handload, which I do see was an option my dad Did do? FMJ in these great little carbines is simply a Joke and fails to stop!!!! I like the weight, Size and feel of them, however I've had and sen and used them in the field and they suffer real world use! If you do get 1, make use of the 15 rnd standard mags and the 30's make sure they are Quaity after market or GI as so many of those make this Carbne not reliable!!! I jumped onthe Mini-14, as it shared a lot of the same feel and weight, but a Better Round and  a lot that I saw I liked better about it! Just my Opinion, but before ya shell out the $ try one and see?  Good Luck and no dis-respect intended, I'm a M-1 man but Garand, Only!!!!

i shot one of these afew times. i fell in love. i think that for what it is. it is an area into itself. its heavier then a pistol carbine but lighter then a standard carbine... if you are looking for something like that then this is your best bet..

as a primary. i wouldnt touch it. its falls into the area of a "mission specific " weapon.  8)

i love the feel of em and shooting them is great, but i want more firepower than that, especially with the price of the ammo and it's scarcity......

The fmj's aren't as bad as people think or else the wouldn't be a popular truck gun plus they can penetrate cares easily.
When you look death in the eyes one too many times, the fast pace of life and the little things that you thought were important aren't really that big a deal.

Do it for the Right Reasons?

Hello all, RON L here

While I'm not of the M-1 Carbine Fan club, If those that do use it, do so for Valid, workable reason and it works for them who am I to say they are wrong? My Dad was a fan, butthen he handloaded and worked up loads that made the HP or Soft points he made work, in his 3-5 M-1 he always seemed to have? I know he shot a Lot of FMJ an whle not as underpowered as some folks say it was not all that impressive to me? I see it that he took a Platform he loved and made it work for him and that to me, make it a wise decision? Just my opinion, you need to reason it out yourself?
