If you cant tell im torn between The Ar and the Ak. Ive Got two options, Sgl21 and a double star m4. I'll have to chose soon.
Btw Honey Badger don't give a Sh#t about spelling.
-
You know I'm an AR kinda guy. ( I like the lil' ones)
With that outta the way, buy the AK-SGL21
You see (warning-possibly offensive content to follow) a Double Star is a piece of shit.
If you want an AR you must buy from a reputable manufacturer. Double Star is not one of them
nor have they ever been renowned for their outstanding quality or quality control for that matter.
With the SGL21, at least you know what you're buying is top quality. A Double Star, in AK terms, is like a WASR
or any AK built by IO or Red Jacket.
Just get the AK.
-
Lmao...red jacket
-
red jacket is like land rover
costs a fortune and ain't even close in quality to a real brand
-
Lol!! Red jacket is damn expensive!! Most if not all the AKs they sell are just half assed Saiga sporter conversions that they don't even bother changing out the hand guard, gas block, or front sight/ non threaded muzzle end for authentic AK parts. If you are handy with power tools and have a shop press, you can have yourself an Arsenal quality AK for $250 less. I would know, I just did mine [url=http://yoursmiles.org/p-m I agree with what they are saying, go AK 74 like Arsenal, buy a lot of mags (they are a bitch to find the surplus mags now at a good price. I was getting they for $10 a mag 7 months ago!) then buy surplus sealed 5.45 cheap and stack it deep! The savings on ammo alone make the AK well worth it. You wont feel guilty about going through 100 or 200 rounds in a training session like you would for the AR. If cost is not an issue and you love the ergonomics of the AR, then by all means go AR but buy quality. If you are on an airplane that is crashing to the ground, are you going to ask for the cheapest parachute to save your life? Money comes and goes as well as can be regained again but your life is another story.
-
200rd training session on my ar is only 40 bucks...............
-
Red Jacket is a joke.

I'm with technique, how dare you insult Arsenal AK with the comparison of Double Star. Shame on you.
On a serious note, Are you just fucking with us? Do you just like attention or are you being serious here? You remind of this kid that we had on L&L. Real annoying little shit.
I may be annoying but at least my opinions are true, from the heart & real.
-
buy both
-
buy both
That's what I ended up doing. Started off with an AK. Then I watched too many Magpul videos and built an AR.
Love 'em both.

At ease gents.
-
no one is being rude, we are just trying to justify what we have and use and why
what is the issue we cant do that?
-
I just sense an upcoming clash.
-
My money is on the Ranger.. ;D
-
My money is on ron! Lol..he's the mod
-
i just dont understand the issue?
enlighten me please, the point of these forums is to find out what guys are using, and why they are using it, and what they recommend, its an opinion
-
look guy chillax I was just trying to keep everyone civil.
Next time Ill just play cop and wait for the murder to go down before I react.
-
Well, the warning was about being civil and this thread is pretty much the norm and it's civil.
We've had a bunch of members leave the new forum already...voluntarily.
I predict there will be more to follow.
Being asked to be civil in a thread that we're being civil in doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.
There doesn't appear to be any rule violations either.
That's a little hard to respect.
-
ok man, thanks for telling us to chill, thus inciting a riot
your philosophy is ass-backwards
but im done talking about it
Get the Ak get and AR in 556, and 308
and get a SCAR too

:D i fogot about them! Loved that movie!

If you do buy an AR, at least go with a quality company. Like BCM or Daniel Defense. And get a mid-length, it helps with recoil and less wear on the parts. Honestly, though, I would go with a AK variant of some sort. Best of luck.
-
Either would be a good choice, but in none of the brands or configurations you listed, son. Do your homework. If I get the all-time negative karma record on this site then so be it. As long as I saved some lives...
-
Lol @ red jacket
I used to be an AK guy but then I got an AR, there is no going back IMO.

Do tell, because that's hilarious!
-
I think the people who are laughing at RJF have never held one. Every build I've handled that Will did has been absolutely pristine.
If you let the TV show sway you--you are looking at the product TV producers make and ignoring the AK work Will does. It's patently intellectually dishonest.

Im not saying my opinoin is the best but i have the sgl21 which only has 120 rounds through it but at 100 yards i was shooting a coffie can consistantly while standing,if u get a ar i would get a bushmaster which can be expensive.im not afraid to recommend the sgl21 to anyone. You have more options than the 2 you posted. Do your research a bit more and you will see. Builds are a option with either. Arsenal is on the top, but many others are aswell. Double star is lower end, but for roughly the same price, deals can be had. Again very basic AR builds are easy. BCG upper and lower. Or build all of it, or just build the lower and purchase the rest complete. Even fully built rifles of good quality and testing arnt to insane in price. Either way, shoot, if not at least handle both platforms. See what one fits you the best. That will be your answer between AR and AK. If ammo price in the concern invest in some reloading equipment. I wouldnt for 7.62x39 as AK's seem to never have issue with steel case. Or dont and run steel case in a AR and the price will be about the same. With the AR if you go that route and run nothing but steel buy a extra extractor. Though you wont need it for many thousands of rounds. Bottom line anything that anyone suggests will all boil down to 1 of 2 things. What actually fits you best or price or both. A arsenal is going to run you something like 7-800ish? Hell you can buy a colt 6920 for mid 900's. Or build using high quality/ well inspected parts for even less. I think thatguy dropped 7-800 on his lmt build
-
I have maid my choice.
-
Personally I'd look at a few more options. I don't know much about DS AR15s, I don't hear any reputable things about them though. I don't know much about Spike's Tactical but they make supposedly Mil Spec rifles for around $850 to $875. There's also Bravo Company, they make great stuff.
As far as AKs go, I wouldn't limit myself to Arsenal. They're great guns but frankly they're expensive for what they are.
A lot of people will bad mouth Century guns till their mouths are dry...........and most of it is warranted. But you can still get a quality AK from most any manufacturer if you know what to look for.
here's my buyer's guide I compiled from AK shopping over the years. Sorry for some of the mishaps on here, a Moderator on the site edited it without consulting me.
http://www.zombiesurvivalwiki.com/page/Oldannyboy%27s+AK+Buyers%27+Guide.
If you follow that guide to insure quality you can get a good rifle from most companies. A few make's I'd suggest are the Norinco Mak 90s (With a square cut receiver) the Egyptian Maadi is a great rifle too, those are the two AKs I have the most experience with.
As far as ARs go, you can consult someone who knows a bit more about them and build one yourself for less than what you'd pay for a regular Mil Spec rifle. A lot of people I know consider the AR to be legos for adults.
-
build one yourself for less than what you'd pay for a regular Mil Spec rifle.
Unless you are just slapping together an upper and lower, I would say it's a bad idea. The best analogy I heard is, that you wouldn't fly in an airplane you put together yourself, why would you trust a tool your life may depend on you built yourself? I say get it put together by a qualified armorer.

Not really, if you research your parts before you buy them it shouldn't be an issue. If I did the research on the airplane parts to the extent I actually knew what I was doing I wouldn't have a problem with flying it (assuming I could fly).
ARs aren't really rocket science, I know a few people that built their own from parts they'd ordered off the internet and there's run just fine.
