FTFY  I know there are 5.56 AKs, but why?  if you want a great 5.56 gun, get the AR.  If you want an AK, go 7.62 x 39/54 all the way.

I agee.  If you are going to go 5.56 then get an AR.  The round will give you (Choke) better distance so you might as well go for accuracy as well with the tighter tolerances.

The AR is a great gun as is the AK but the choice is ultimately yours and you need to figure out what works best for you.
Write out a list of what the pros and cons are for each as well as what they are for your ao and see what you come up with.

Thier was a Time with The Romanaian SAR-3 was easiy had and readily avalible and then I would recomend an AK in 223, Now that they have all but dried up, I still see the SAR-2's show up in 5.45X39, but like many, I am concerned about imports and unlike 7.62X39, thier is just not as much of that Bulk ammo inthe us yet, in time that may change? No, for right now I'd say AR in 223, AK in 7.62x39, unless you wanna stock up on a Maga dose of crated 5.45X39? Reloading for that Caliber is Possible but not easy to do, nor cheap! I well see the use of BOTH AR ad AK when the situation calls for it and a different System is not always a Bad thing! Support it with ammo and spare parts that are critical and you have yet another ammo ability to use?

Here's a real simple solution ........ get one of each.

The Ak is by far the better rifle, but the AR is the best platform for the .223/5.56 and the facts are that in this country .223/5/56 will always be more available and easier to get ahold of (especially in a SHTF situation) than 7.62, it sucks to say it but it true.

Idk....every place i purchase ammo for my ar,theres the same if not more 7.62 ammo for sale as well.

But thats the reason we "prep" theres plenty of tomatoes and cucumbers right now,but i bet when tshtf i'll be able to find 7.62 ammo b4 i can find a salad!

  As I read all the various Posts and opinions, I'm not sure this is so much about "Drinking the Koolaid" so much for AR or AK, as it is making an Informed Decision based onthe facts and your needs? Same way one would Pick a Car or a Mate, we do it for Solid, Real Reasons and not as a Fad or as everyone else is doing it, Right?
