February 2021 Snow Apocalypses

It looks like the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and some southern states are going to get some snow over the next two days. Looking at the weather map this storm goes from Tennessee on up north to New York and northeast to Maine. As this storm moves east and north I am sure it will affect North Carolina north too.

NOAA predicts that my location will be in the 14-18" range over today and tomorrow.

As of this writing, we have about 3 1/2". The event started yesterday at 1700 hrs. with just flurries.

I have executed on my counties sever weather SOI which basically calls on amateur radio operators to report snow depths and several other weather related statistics every four-hours starting at noon local today.

A few things...

1) Please post snow amounts on this post/thread throughout the day. I will do likewise for NE PA/Southern Tier NY.
2) Do you think we should have a short ERWIN net tonight to get caught up? It will probably be on 7.238 Mhz at 1700 hrs. If so voice your opinion here and i will post a PACE.

~1 inch accumulation so far from overnight.  No precipitation at the moment.  It's a 31 degree slushy melt & refreeze mess here.  Boss called off work due to too many traffic accidents.   :coffeeNews:

Had about 3 inches yesterday but it poured last night and I woke up to no snow anywhere today. :stir:

On the Cumberland Plateau in beautiful Tennessee, it's 31 degrees, with occasional light snow showers, and we have maybe a half an inch on the ground.  We are under a winter weather advisory until 18:00 tonight.  The roads are just wet with no accumulation, needless to say, all the schools are closed today.  I just came in from sweeping off the solar panels, trying to get every last watt.

Johny, I'd be willing to participate in a net, if you have one.

Weatherman says local for me was 6".  Driveway yardstick agrees.  43/37 are todays numbers with 41/25 for tomorrow.

I have nowhere to go anyway so let it snow.

It's getting frisky up in Pennsylvania.  They get a little snow and starting shooting each other... https://fox17.com/news/nation-world/police-3-dead-in-pennsylvania-shooting-in-fight-over-snow-removal

Stay safe up there Johny & Company!

Heck, that is about 70-miles south of me. Bummer, more fuel for the anti gun crowd in PA.

With Dems being as stupid as they are, all you have to do is tell them its the snow's fault and they should ban SNOW.

Hobby Hut operations curtailed (can't get water to run the still condenser) and locals (elk and deer) getting ready to drop down in elevation where forage isn't buried.
Unable to attach photos.  @ 3' snow compacted down to a heavy 1' 6" in most places here at the Compound.   :-)

I was listening around 7.238 up and down and didn't hear you. There was a long winded conversation going on right on 7.238.

So, did it snow?  Just a light dusting here, though the road is a sheet of ice.  The sun is starting to break through the clouds, so most of the snow should be gone by noon.  All the schools in our local 12 county region are closed due to less than a half inch accumulation.

Yes, it snowed.

So far we received 10". It is still snowing and since the sun came up, it is coming down heavy now. The snow started as flurries on Sunday at about 1700 hrs. eastern.

Folks east of us up here in NE PA have received the brunt of this storm. A good friend of ours in NW NJ has received a little over 24" so far and it is still coming down.

According to NOAA, the snow is supposed to trail off to just snow showers at around 1600 hrs. or so. Sporadic snow showers till Wednesday night.

Looking ahead, Friday we are supposed to get 1-2" more and Sunday through Monday, another 4-6".

Miss the snow yet Jackalope?  ;)

PKv, concerning the proposed net last night...Only person who responded to my question as to whether to do or not do a 40-meter net; only Jackalope responded so I shined it. Not that I didn't want to QSO with Jackalope mind you. Also, I was a bit worried about snow/ice build up on my main dipole antenna. There was snow buildup on my back-up antenna.

Thanks Jackalope for your snow report. Anybody else out there that would like to share?  :coffeeNews:

We are looking a the possibility of a bit more Thursday into Friday this week and potential dumpage of the white chit Sunday into Monday.

Another day or 3 going nowhere.  About usual for me.

The weather service is predicting single digit night low temperatures for this area next week.  Our pond might actually freeze solid.  The cold will hopefully kill off some of the ticks.  They're also suggesting that we might get some significant snow next week too, but the forecast models aren't all in agreement.

Johny, I haven't had to shovel snow this winter or last winter.  I might have to search for our snow shovel, if we brought one down here.

 :lmfao: Jackalope.

We sidestepped most of this storm. All-in-all we got 12" while folks a bit south and on out to the coast received up to 30".

Still the roads were icy and I ended up in the ditch - Port side with my Kabota tractor. I was going along when all of a sudden I was crabbing left. I tried every trick in the book but could not get the tractor out. My neighbor pulled me out at about 1830 hrs. this evening.

Then, earlier today I was coming home on a secondary state road and was ran off the road into a ditch with my Explorer. The private snow plow that forced me into the ditch stopped and pulled me out.

This morning I woke up to one of my older outside cats dead in his heated box. He was very old and he was moving a bit slower this winter but he was doing okay. I have heated and insulated houses for my two cats. The cat hotels are heated with a pressure activated heating pad. Bummer, he was a good mouser.

So all in all, the day sucked.

With that written, the Good Lord allows challenging days to come your way so you know you are alive and appreciate the small pleasures in life. Like good neighbors and Samaritans.

73 & God Bless to all

Johny, sorry to hear about your bad day.  And our condolences for the loss of one of your 4 legged members of your family.  That's always tough, but it sounds like he had a good, long life.

Gee, touring the ditches twice in one day?  I'm sure Mrs. Mac had some comments about that!

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

One large hole in the seat or 2 side by sides?  Don't matter how/when/where/why slides and ditchings happen, pucker factor always gets going.

I woke up sore as hell this morning. I do not know if it was my two encounters with a ditch or the shoveling I did yesterday. Probably a little bit of both.

Taking it easy today. Write a few pieces and plan my garden. Probably order my Alaskan Mill too. Nothing makes ya' feel better than spending money  ;D
