Dude, I think my AK is broken.
« on: August 31, 2011, 03:18:04 PM »
Ive been getting kinda bummed about my situation with my primary rifle, the WASR-10/63. My first AK clone. Well, it looked pretty from far away, but up close its a mess. The front sights are canted, hell, the back sight block is canted too. Sits to the right. So my quad rail and sights look weird from behind the gun, like they are leaning. I could just fix the red dot to zero and hope it stays, but should I really depend on a rifle if I cant aim it properly? I cant find anyone who can fix it either. So ive been thinking, should I sell it anf become an AR dude? Come to think about it, my gear is made for AR equippment. So I wouldnt be losing on much. But can I even sell it? I got it for 420, I put in a quad rail and a red dot I might be able to get around what I payed for. Anyone know how I should go about the AR set-up? Im not rich, so Imma have to go for a cheaper set-up. Let me know what you guys think. And if any NM guys wanna look at it for me, be my guest, ill roll by sometime.

Okay kid, dont try to school the teacher. Im looking for some suggestions for what I have now. Same thing can be said about your bb guns, but hey, Im nice.
Anyways, Im Ive never tried out a rail side attachment. Are they any good? they look more stable than sights and rails on the gas block.

Im not trying to sound like a dick, this is my honest .02. from prepping brother to prepping brother.

If your rifle is in that bad of shape you could be risking your life if you fix the problems. there is a chance that if you fix the block and the metal gets worm in one spot or another, you may have the thing blow up in your hand over the next 500 rounds afterwords.

If you are looking at getting into AR's. i would say. sell the WASR to a shop or a private seller for 300 bux( enclude the red dot and quad rail.)  and buy a complete lower.

you can buy lowers from Gun broker at 185.00 out the door. and they are made by the same machining company as Spikes tactical...here is the link http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=246002360

that leaves you  115 to put towards a Upper. they say its cheaper to build your own but if its your first time with an AR. id just buy the upper  and lower complete and get a very basic idea of what you have.  before you are in over your head.

also you can contact anyone who has one with any questions about companies or what you are doing.

Happy hunting and if you have any questions just ask

Yeah, ive been doing a little research on lowers and uppers. but those uppers are hella expensive! Im going to try it though. My AK actually holds a zero with sights, and with the iron sights, at 100 yards, I just have match the rear sights slightly to the right of the front sight peg, making up for the canted sight. So far I can hit bullsey from about 150. So is it really a problem?

not being a dick, again

that sounds right for ak47 but. here is a link for afew good uppers http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-Standard-16-LIGHT-WEIGHT-Upper-Receiver-p/bcm-urg-car-16lw.htm add a handguard and a rear sight and you have a complete rifle.

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-M4-16-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-m4-16.htm

if you have 115 left out of your sale of the ak47. it will only cost you 300 for the upper. and getting a BCG is 100 bux or less. so for only 400 bucks and the sale of your ak47. you have a rifle that is a solid well working machine

WASR-10's are famous for their ugly finishes.  I've got to look at myself in the mirror every morning so I obviously have no problem with loving ugly.  If it really bothers you get some Home Depot camo in a can and paint it.  As for your front sight you can get a sight canting adjustment tool for about 7 bucks on line anywhere.

You kind of sound like you really wanted an AR.  If that's the case sell it and get one.  Those AR's can sure be sexy looking and quite tempting.   My problem is that once you try ugly it's hard to go back.

I do love my AK though, that big ass 762x39 round screaming downrange. Nothing beats it. But I am swaying towards getting a AR. Mights get a AK later on again, but a good one. I just need to stock pile the bills.

i dont want to sound like a dick, making the comments about 150 yards being normal for an ak47 and afew others ...i dont want to piss people off when i come at them with facts.

if you can only hit 150 or less then its a no brainer

You shouldn't change your state of mind because of a lemon.

Think about it logistically, all the training you have done with the AK goes to waste. & now you have to start from scratch with an AR to hell with that.

Drop the cheap ass Wasr get your self an SGL. I mean the kid maybe out of place. But he does have a point. " you buy once you cry once "

Exactly, that how I feel. I can fight with an AK hella fine. But with an AR, who knows yet? Ive done soo much AK training. And you know, it fits me. And i love field stripping my AK. You can have that much fun field stripping with an AR. I totally agree with you there though. Buying bad shit happens. I have mad respect for the AK platform. FUCKING LOVE IT.

A WASR is WASR is a WASR.
You run the risk of the good/bad/ugly/shit when dealing with WASR's. Occasionally you get a decent one.
Quite frankly though, even the "good" ones are only a shadow of a real AK.

I'd sell it. Buy a from a reputable builder or importer. Buy a SAIGA and do a conversion...
Best ways to get a good AK I know of short of building your own.

yeah, thats what I'm talking about.

Bro the SGL's are just that. except Atlantic firearms does their conversions and their builds to Russian Army Spec.
Do your research. The SGL series rifle's ARE the best AKs you will find any where on the market.

When I got my first WASR the front sight was canted, so I beat on it with a hammer till was aligned and it was fine... so was the hammer. If a deal I'm working on falls through and you still want to get rid of it I'll take it off your hands in a few months.

Edited by thatGuy: Don't hit the front sight post with a hammer!

I agree with reaver on this one go with an SGL or an interarms AK, the IAC AK's are very well made and I dare say damn near as good as an SGL21 or 31.
When you look death in the eyes one too many times, the fast pace of life and the little things that you thought were important aren't really that big a deal.

I have never had an issue with my wasr but thats prolly a fluke lol. They have a front site tool on CTD that is under 15 bucks.i will say from my personal experiance that both platforms are great. I just feel that the AK is going to travel a much longer& harder road in a world with out gunsmiths available. I loved my M-4 when i was in the army. But i bet my familys life on the AK not breaking down on my ass when the gunshops are all looted and the gunsmiths nowhere to be found. Just my 0.2 Bro. Do whats right for you and yours. Good luck

Sell it and buy another one that isn't fucked up, or better yet buy a yugo or polish one. Doesn't really matter as long as you check it out BEFORE you buy it.

Hello  all, RON L here

As with so many things many ways to go, yes, You could Bundle it up and sell it to someone, (Hopefully telling him of all it's faults), or, as I have done and so many have before you, FIX IT??? None of the Issues that are Mentioned here (Canted sites, Firing issues) or the like are impossible nor hard to Fix? I will Post the Link to the AK Forum, folks that routinly Build, Fix and dismantle AK's all day long and night long!! If they can't fix it then YUP SELL THAT PUPPY!!! But, as inthe case of my old 97 Neon, I'd rather fix it then sell it for another? Here is the Link and good Luck?? I'll also except a PM to help ya fix it in HOUSE:

http://www.theakforum.net/

If these folks can't help ya fix it or fix tat themselves it's bount for the trash can!
