Are there any bullpup users on the forum?  I have a couple in my armory.  I like their compact dimensions, especially within structures.  And several different makes and models are used by the militaries in Israel, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, etc.  Even the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at one time used a bullpup.  Because of their design, bullpups offer full size barrels in a compact package.

There are some cons to bullpup firearms, like having the action close to your head.  If you're accustomed to the AR-15 platform, you'll need to change your muscle memory when changing magazines, as the magazine well is located in the rear of the bullpup firearm.

Overall, bullpup firearms are an interesting alternative to the AR and AK platforms.  Bullpup shotguns can be devastating tools.

Bullpups are an interesting subject.  They have some advantages and some disadvantages.  Yes they provide a full length barrel in a compact platform. This is always they primarily touted strong point over a traditional rifle such as the AR or AK.  They have a number of disadvantages, more than just learning a new manual of arms. These are not common to all of the types but do effect them to some degree.  Having the bolt so close to the operators face during a catastrophic failure is definitely one of them.  The ejection of spent brass tends to make ambi gun handling more difficult. Yes they can be set up to eject for lefties, but they are miserable to shoot off hand.  Some designs have solved this by ejecting forward. One of the biggest drawbacks is malfunction clearance in Bullpups.  These are just generalizations about Bullpups, not specific models.  Some are better and worse than others at each of these.

As far as other militaries using them I wouldnt base much on that.  The British Army SA-80 is categorized by many as hot garbage.  The A2 and A3 models have been much better following HK producing upgrades to them.  The SAS and SBS do not use them however.  They use Colt Canada and LWRCI varients of the AR platform primarily (as well as a selection of many other guns).  The same is true of the IDF(Tavor) and Australians (Steyer Aug).  The IDF Paras and the Aus SAS use primarily AR pattered rifles as their primaries.  Likewise for the New Zealanders (Steyer Aug) whose SAS uses an LMT variant of the AR platform.

I am not for nor against Bullpups.  If trained with and run properly they are as effective as any other type.  One thing to consider is the availability of spares.  If you have them and like them then keep running them.  I have owned the Tavor, AUG, and F2000. I sold them all.  They didnt "do it" for me. Then again I am also not a fan of the SCAR, but love the much older FAL and if spares were available would shoot an AR180 all day. If I did go with a Bullpup I would probably go with the Steyer AUG just slightly over the Tavor X95.

 With the end of the barrel so close to your ears is this a problem?

   Jojo, I haven't noticed an increase in noise while using bullpups.  However, I try to use good hearing protection.  Using a shotgun indoors is very loud, whether a conventional shotgun or a bullpup shotgun.  Think about how short the barrels are on handguns or PDW's.  I've used a suppressor on a Keltec KSG shotgun indoors, and the difference is amazing, but that's the whole idea of suppressors.

     Chris, that was an outstanding outline regarding bullpups.  I've had a KSG for a while now, and it's definitely my "go to" shotgun, because of its shell capacity, balance, and compact format.  I recently acquired an AUG, and after using it, I'm impressed.  I'm not a big fan of the AR platform, though I have several, AR's seem to be very utilitarian.  The AUG is an elegant firearm, with nice lines.  A spare parts kit is on order!  But then again, I have spare parts for most of my firearms, just in case.

 No insult intended. I have hearing aids in both ears because  I've been around loud noises most of my life. I know it's irritating to my wife when I say what but it's also irritating to people with hearing loss when others don't believe you can't hear or understand them.
 Yes it would have been funny face to face.  :lmfao: I have a very good sense of humor and don't mind when I'm the butt of a joke.
