Title: Built some new firing points yesterday
Post by: Erick on April 15, 2018, 04:15:19 PM
I just got done building new barricades for shooters on our range to maneuver around or shoot behind from.
This time used pressure treated wood and plywood since the old ones fell apart too quickly sitting on the humid ground.

Built 3:
- One to simulate a concrete barrier in a parking garage , which is to be treated as cover to shoot behind from
-One tall and wide(ish) target w/ a simulated window in the middle to shoot thru. But made the opening intentionally too low to shoot from the standing and too high to shoot from the kneeling. Why? realism... Real windows are rarely of perfect convenient height for kneeling fire...real world defense fire against enemies foreign or domestic will have to happen through inconvenient openings that force you to use unconventional body postures that challenge the stamina of your leg muscles and core.
- 3rd one was simplest.. just a tall obstruction to use to simulate a large tree or a pillar or the edge of a building.

We still have movable barrels... those will be used to obstruct view to some select targets to force shooters to maneuver to get a line of fire past the obstruction no matter which firing point they are at.

Erick

Sounds good. Should definitely help improve situational training.  Here are a couple of pics of the modular portable training system I developed and have been using.  As a complete system we use it for Reality Based (UTM) force on force/ active shooter training.  As smaller individual parts we use it as barriers for live fire training.

I hope it gives you some ideas.

Chris I'd like to take your training sometime :)

Also In the meantime here are some examples that approximate what we built on Saturday that I just googled from the 'net:

Hey, I'll bring a case or 2 of beer.  And some steaks.  He is invited to dinner.
