I would like to add to what Crow is saying, as preppers we need to think about our tactical approach a little differently than the United States Military does. For ages the model has been 'eat shit while bravo flanks.' That doesn't work in small units.

The way we need to think about fighting is ambushes from prepared positions with favorable weather, terrrain, light and timing. We need to place more importance on movement than we do any other area because we will need to be flexable in when and where we can fight. It will do no good to pull a last stand against superior numbers or to even make an attempt to go afield against a larger force.

That line of thinking has immediately ruled out the use of armor in my head. For it's same weight I can carry 20 days of food, retarded amounts of ammo or just accept the savings in loadout. Walk faster arrive fresher.

It's all well and good to load up like the pros do if you have a truck to take you into the fight and a supply chain to bring up the things you need but we will be on our own with a couple of balls of rice and an AK... remind you of anyone?
