A safety valve on one of the bladder tanks for my well system sprung a leak so I had to shut my well pump off as it was starting to flood my crawl space. We couldn't get a plumber for a day and a half. Time for a SHTF test. I had bunch of lemon aid jugs filled with non drinking water for just a situation. My wife who suffers from normalsy bias always complained about all of the water in the garage but now she understands.
It is almost unbelievable how much you use the head. Came close to running out and we only flushed when it was necessary. If I can make a suggestion that would be to count how many times you and your family use the head and what you use it for so you can adjust your water reserves for flushing. :gasMask:

Or you can eliminate the head by using a composting toilet, or for a long term scenario build an outhouse. I went with a composting toilet, so my septic tank shouldn't need to be pumped out for years since it only receives grey water. I do have an outhouse as a backup, but I don't like using it in the winter. Save your water for more important needs, rather than flushing.... oh yeah, there's always the water conservation saying, "If it's yellow let it mellow, and if it's brown, flush it down."

LOL, "If it's yellow let it mellow, and if it's brown, flush it down" is our motto at the cabin. Most people don't get it and due to habit flush the toilet without even thinking.
Anyway, the compost toilet is a great addition to ones toilet needs. Also, is an electric toilet you can find at Incinolet Toilet (https://incinolet.com/). We used one for 20 years at our house in Rhode Island as our house was located over the water 12 hours a day and no room for a septic system.
An outside toilet is the best in a no water situation though. Except as what Jackalope eluded too - When it is zero degrees outside. LOL.
On another note: Pick up some 55 gallon food safe drums for your water back-up. Here is a pic of our. Three drums easily lasts us a week with minor constraints put on them.
Sounds like you are good now though.

Interesting read.
If i could. you are welcome to read up on what the guys are doing in cape town to save water.
some are extreme and per person you are restricted to 50L per day.
Even installations of sink and toilet to use water more sparingly. pics attached.

chamber pots work - just saying. to make it fun put your favorite politician's portrait on the bottom of the pot - it helps your aim.

I think the message in my post was poorly written, I was trying to say that my wife's "terminal normalsy bias" might be on the way to a cure. As I posted before I have to keep my preps hidden from her. A 55gal drum would be awful hard to hide but 1gal jugs not so much.
As it is now I have about six months of food hidden which is twice the amount of our meds needed to survive.

Jojo it is always a great thing when your better half is on board. I have to say i still have some work with mine but he also seems to be coming around to it. After all where we live it is now becoming somewhat on the brink of civil war and he himself admitted that to me the other day.
