Here's a video on using soap to deter critters from coming in your garden. I haven't tried it but it seems possible.

In an earlier life, I had a small apple orchard consisting of 250 trees. When the trees were small, we used hotel sized bars of Irish Sprig soap to discourage deer from nibbling on our young trees. We would drill a hole in the center of the bar and then tied it to the tree with a waxed twine. The system worked quite well, nd it was effective against deer.

We mist diluted dish washing soap onto the leaves of plants we want to keep insects off of.
It is an old remedy that still works.
Cheers
