Ok I'm not going to ask anyone where (best not to mention where)....because I know how people are. I'm just asking if anyone anywhere in Pa seen any morel mushrooms popping up yet?
I've seeded my own property a few times with morel spore, and haven't seen any here (ever.). I have eaten them, and found them out in Indiana about 25 years ago. These mushrooms cooked taste like steak. Fried in oil, or battery dipped they are excellent.

Hopefully I can find a few to eat soon...maybe once it's a little warmer.

So which part of those are edible? Slice up the stem? The beehive kinda looking upper part?
Then cooking-- how about bake? Low temp fry in some bacon grease? Chop up and sautee in a bit of gravy?
Seems pretty much any way to soften them up some works.

We have them up here in AK but they are very hard to find. The one I do find are usually pretty small and I make a cut or two and fry in butter or bacon grease. I've eaten them like that or tossed in an omelet, with steaks or whatever.
Another option is to freeze them. IIRC I cut to the size I wanted, placed them on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer over night. After they were totally frozen I quickly vac-sealed them and then back into the freezer until I wanted to use them. I dont remember if I cooked the prior to freezing or not

So what part is edible? The relatively straight off white stem part or the squiggly brownish upper part?
Or both?
