Title: Just some pics from the garden today
Post by: Well-Prepared Witch on October 21, 2016, 02:13:11 PM
Just still getting some produce out of the garden.  Next year I want to do more succession plantings and harvest-extending, but I think for our first actually successful year it's not doing too badly. :)

1st one - beans, I forget which variety.  They were amazing and tender in the spring and summer as green beans.  Now they look like they'll be great over the winter in soups and such.  I have a whole basket of these to shell.
2 - Radishes - these are Munchener Bier radishes from Baker Creek.  They're amazing - I love them fried up in butter.  Tonight I'm going to slice them thin and toss them in a stir fry with some unexpected late-season broccoli and peas.
3 - eggs - not technically from the garden, but still from the homestead.  This is a little less than two days' worth of eggs - there's another carton started.  The new pullets are laying like crazy!
4 - Pumpkins - I actually got a couple pumpkins despite the bloody squash bugs killing the plants!

Great pictures! Thx for sharing.

Funny, I spent most of today in the garden too. Found several more acorn squash, cucumber's, another pumpkin and a lot of green tomatoes. My lima beans are done and will be harvesting the ripe dried beans Sunday along with the last of the sweet peppers.

I also have a late crop of turnips, rutabagas, brussels sprouts and carrots to harvest from the raised beds.

A friend who is a veteran Sr. gardener has recommended that I spread about 100 lbs of lime through my garden (~2,000 sf) this year, roto till it in then spread winter cover rye (6 1/2 lbs for a 2,000 sf garden) to prep the garden for next spring.

Winter is a coming.

Yeah, I definitely need to start prepping the garden for winter, too!
