Coconut Oil
« on: January 16, 2017, 05:59:21 PM »
I saw coconut oil in a "Big Lots" store and it said Virgin Refined Coconut Oil. Is this the right stuff to get for long term storage? It was $12.95 a gallon. It looked like the stuff I bought at a regular food store.

I do not know a lot about coconut oil however olive oil has a long shelf life too. Especially if you keep the container sealed until ready to use.

is it a cooking oil like corn oil?  is it an eating oil like olive?  is it a dual purpose oil like lard?

I do know Kbop that most movie theaters use coconut oil to pop their pop corn. Supposed to be high in flavor.

They stopped that a long while ago. There was a CONSENSUSES  of scientists that said it would clog your arteries just like they did in 1974 (earth day) that olive oil was bad for you.

Kbop  coconut oil is used for cooking and in place of butter. It has a very long shelf life, that is if it is of pure quality. The reason I asked the question was that  the store "Big Lots" usually sells low quality imported merchandise and I have seen coconut oil in regular food stores sell  it  for about $7.00 for 12oz.
