Title: TAPRN Net
Post by: pkveazey on December 11, 2016, 02:27:28 PM
The net moderator for the TAPRN net said she would be away for several weeks(holiday season) and is trying to get someone to fill in for the 3.818 MHz, 9pm, Sunday night net. The last time someone else ran the net it was LAME. I will be listening and if it's not boring, I'll probably check in. Pre-check in starts at 8 and the net starts at 9. See you there, maybe.

He's probably running an amplifier, which isn't unusual, especially on 75 and 40 meters.

No worries jackalope

75/80 was very clear last night. I can't believe that guy in S. America who was blasting into my antenna/radio as S-20+ LOL.

Well, it looks like nobody took Ruth's place for the TAPRN net. I'll probably listen each week to see if they hold the net and if they do, I might check in. Ruth does such a good job, I think most folks aren't interested unless she's there. Well, the world isn't going to collapse if she doesn't hold the net for a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to her returning.

Hey!  No music to be transmitted by amateur radio stations, according to the FCC...but then again, I've heard hams transmit music on the 20, 40 and 75 meter bands.  It's amazing the lack enforcement these days.

Well, they held the TAPRN net tonight. This time it was a bit better than last time. They actually had topic to discuss.

I got lucky. I was tuning through and heard her tuning up. I waited to see if it was Ruth, and it was. I checked in early and now I'm out having a tuna sub and a starbucks coffee. I have to watch the time so I'm back in the house before 9.

Cool beans.

I asked her what the subject was for this evening and she responded with..."What courses or classes are you going to sign up for to help you prep this year?"

Kind of lame but I told her I would participate.

In the spirit of the net, I am looking for a at home course I could do/take to loose my winter baby fat and get in shape for the hell that is coming this spring.

If you think of it and you agree (No worries if you don't  ;) ) When Ruth calls on you plug Unchainedpreppers. I always say, KC1&*# from Unchainedpreppers.com

Well, it's close to TAPRN net time. I didn't hear it last Sunday and then realized that Georgia was getting its butt kicked with storms. Ruth is in Georgia. I'm going to try to participate tonight if the storm didn't take Ruth off the air. Early check in starts at 8 and the net starts at 9. Frequency is approx 3.818 Mhz LSB.

I'm in if the subject isn't boring. The propagation seems to be good tonight. ;)

I am monitoring 3.804.00 if anybody wants to hit me up.

Ok I have moved from 3.804 Mhz over to the TAPRN net. Tonight it is at 3.820.00 Mhz.

Subject tonight is what extra equipment/accessories do you have stored to help you get out on the air.

February 26, 2017 TAPRN net on 3.851.00 tonight.

Topic: Solar power set-up (s).

I listened to the TARPN net last night till the end. There was more than 35 stations signed up to talk on last nights topic. Here are my thoughts...

> To have more than 10 people/stations on a net is BORING!
> The topic was very broad being "What kind of solar power are you using if any?" Man O'man the responses were
all over the realm called solar. Maybe focusing on one aspect of solar would have been more appropriate.
> Ruth, the MC for the night, talked WAY to much which made the 2 + hour long net even longer.

After the end of that net I spun the dial and found another prepping net called Liberty net (AKA Patriot net). It was on 3.995 Mhz. There was eleven folks checked in including me. There was no subject, which I disagree with but it was quicker and held my interest better than the TARPN net.

Liberty net is on at 2100 hrs Wed, 2200 hrs eastern on Sat & Sun. I will give them a try this coming Wednesday. Again the location is at 3.995 Mhz.

Where I am going with this is - I still think we could and should start a net of our own. Thoughts?

Go for it! I'll try to remember about the net on Wednesday.  Many of the nets that I've participated previously were more or less free association nets, without a particular subject which was chosen prior to the net.  I suppose one format could be a discussion of current events, and as the events were discussed the net participants could offer suggestions or they could seek input regarding issues or subject which concerned them.  This would be spontaneous, but it may offer more relevant information regarding a troublesome issue.  For instance, perhaps someone is having an issue with their green beans not growing well, or their chickens are laying eggs everywhere but the nesting box.

In any case, it would be a good idea to set-up a planned net in the event of some catastrophic event, i.e., a massive electric grid outage, or a flu pandemic.  I'd have to give some more thought to that.

Cool Jackalope. I do know the major issue on a net is PERSEC. I had a discussion with NCSCOUT over at Bushbeater who suggested that a net is foolish because of PERSEC.

I am thinking more of during a SHTF time then now. It sure would be nice to have a net already existing.
