« on: February 02, 2017, 03:55:46 PM »
Anyone near Virginia on February 4, might be interested in attending the Richmond,VA., Frostfest at the Richmond Raceway(old State Fairgrounds). It's 10 AM to 4 PM and cost $10. They have all kinds of radio equipment and Ham Radio testing.

Yes, its a Hamfest. It has grown into a very large and popular Hamfest. Its called the FROSTFEST because its held in the dead of Winter. Most other Hamfests are held in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

I was spinning the dial last night and around 3.920 their was a Virginia net going on. They were all talking about the FrostFest, e.g. what they were looking for, what channels they would use at the show for their HT's, etc.

Sounds like fun. I may mark that date down for 2018. Can't go on such short notice.

Thx  pkveazey  :bravo:

Its about 2 hours east of me but life won't permit this year.  Mental note make for next year.  Whatever good that note is, probably none.

The Frostfest was really nice. They had the HAM testing in one separate area and the FORUMS in another area, and the rest was all over the main floor. Lots of people and lots of stuff. Some was overpriced, some was just right, and some was really cheap. I made a couple of passes through the main floor and bought a few odds and ends. My best buy was a Hustler model 144, 2 meter mobile antenna for $15. Its a 5/8 over a 1/4 wave. Lots of gain but they're 7 feet tall. I already have one on my car but the SUV is too tall to put one on it. I plan to make radials for it and use it as a base antenna. Hustler makes a radial kit for it but I can make one for cheap. A couple of my friends use them for base antennas and they work great.
