November, we will be moving back to winter frequencies for the ERIN net. I will attach the Winter SOI For "When The Internet Goes Dark" below.
The next ERIN(2) net will be Tuesday October 29, 2024, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net. The PACE for that net is as follows,
1) At 1900E hrs. digital net (NCS is usually on frequency at 1850E hrs.) will commence.
Primary 7.110 USB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate 3.5887.110Mhz USB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Contingency This email thread
Emergency Signal(1). Do I have your cell phone number?
When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,
de your call, your call/name/location/W-TFC or No-TFC/ de your call
All traffic (TFC) will be passed via MFSK32. I suggest using the FLmsg ICS-213 or the AmRRON Custom forms.
NCS will convert mode from C-4/250 (Contestia 4/250) to MFSK32 and then instruct check-ins one at a time to pass TFC.
Once TFC is complete, NCS will return mode back to C-4/250 for the wrap up of the QSO.
2) At 2000E hrs. (I am typically on frequency at 1950E hrs.) will commence.
Primary 7.193 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air (New as May 2023)
Alternate 3.898 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air
Contingency This email thread
Emergency Signal(1). Do I have your cell phone number?
The above SOI will be used at first, if the interwiz is taken down through Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions. Then we will develop and share a revised SOI.

JohnMac
(1) The Signal App is being used instead of text for emergency's. Go to my post When The Interwize Goes
Dark post, for an explanation.
(2) A quick history of ERIN (Eastern, Region, Information, Network). Just after President trump declared a
state of emergency, March 2020, I was asked by NC Scout (Brushbeater.org) to NCS a Covid-19 net, as we
were worried that misinformation, intentional or unintentional, was coming out of the main stream media.
The net was three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and it was a voice net (phone).
June of the same year, the net was reduced to three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. By
August it was reduced to one day a week, Tuesday evening's at 2000E Hrs.
As digital grew in popularity, I introduced a digital net at 1900E Hrs. the same night.
These two nets have been every Tuesday night since January 2021 with only a few interruptions due to
electrical storms in my AO.
The purpose of these nets is to do the following,
> Fellowship, connect hams with other hams,
> Testing of equipment and alternate modes,
> Pass traffic concerning ones AO. Traffic typically consists of,
- Localized weather report if out of the ordinary.
- Fuel availability & prices, petrol/Diesel.
- Civil unrest if any.
- Unusual Military movement if any.
- Other interesting local news.
> Training. To help hams become more confident in TXing & RXing, practice being a NC or ANC station, and
all other that applies to prepare for a localized or national drama, and
> Serve as a conduit to connect hams who have radio equipment to sell or looking for.
I want to thank all the hams that regularly participate on these nets. I am looking for NCS volunteers, in case one day I am hit by a bus.
ATTACHED BELOW IS THE 2024/25 WINTER EMERGENCY SOI. JUST CLICK ON IT AND PRINT TO HAVE HANDY IF NEEDED.

ERIN NET ON 7.193 MHZ

Good nets tonight. As always, the digital net does the heavy lifting, sending reports that everyone can read, even in weak signal conditions. Voice is more of a morale booster, tough copy, often but it's a bit more 'social'.
Cooters' QRP CW signal was good from Northern Florida, earlier in the day when I took his report. A radio without a network of experienced radio operators is about useless. The network makes things work.

Ps. Let's all remember the Commie Feds for deserting our fellow Americans, without drinking water, shelter or food. Face DC and wait for the flash. ( Don't stare at the fireball, you'll blind yourself. )

Wow! Not many people on the net tonight. I might have misheard the last guy from NC, but I think he said his name was Gary. I hope next weeks net will have a lot more people. I could just barely hear the fellow from Arabia. I had to use my headphones and then I could make out a few bits and pieces.
-
I?ll try to be there next week. Had to pick up the kids from Target. 😆

Interesting digital & phone nets tonight.
40-Meters is deteriorating so it is time to
switch both nets to 75/80-Meters. Stay tuned...
Digital
We had 13 check-ins total, of which 8
were to pass TFC but due to the degrading
of the band we only had 4 stations that
passed TFC
3, PA & FL
2, VA
1, NJ, NY, MI, NC, & OH
Phone
Similarly, 40-meters was awful thx to the
deteriorating band and stations splattering on
us that were to close.
6 check-ins
2, PA & VA
1, NY, FL, & NC
Thanks to all who participated.

Good signal earlier from Cooter in QRP CW ( 4 Watts and a sipole) from Florida to me. From me to the digital net. He is on the edge, not forced to evacuate, waiting to ride it out and we'll sked again Thursday and Friday if the commercial comms drop dead, as they likely will.
[ but the guy on the popular forum said it's impossible to wipe out cell phone coverage over a wide area - impossible!]
Note to reader: he lied. OTOH, radio works.
This is a demonstration of the "Anti-fragility Principle"

Two regulars from UP have volunteered to be net control for tomorrow night's ERIN nets.
Stephen will be NCS for Digital, and Jackalope will be NCS for HF.
It would be great if we had a ANCS (Alternate or Assistant Net Control Station) to back them up do in part to propagation. Someone north of the MD line would be perfect. Just drop them a PM or email to let them know you are volunteering ahead of time before the respective nets.
Thank you gentlemen.

I?m on 7.193 for early check-ins.

Being a first time digital NCS was clumsy and awkward, but I sure am glad that I did it. I need the practice and experience. Huge thank you to JohnyMac for entrusting me with tonight's net!

Oh, No!! I missed the ERIN net tonight. A Ham friend called me on the phone and the next thing I knew, it was 8:20 PM.
-
Phone net was a Region 4 net, with four participants.

Thanks to all who participated in the net.

Hey, Stephen and Jackalope...
Thanks for handling the ERIN nets for me this past Tuesday.
Got home late late last night and I should have a AAR up about the mission in the next 24-hrs. Maybe 48-hrs. as I am moving slowly today. :lmfao:
Stephen, you are more than welcome to do it more often if you like. I would love to get a round robin of NCS to do both, digital and phone.
Thanks again gentlemen.

Richard (in MI), and Alyssa (in VA), and I (in FL) had a two hour Zoom session this afternoon to discuss how best to do NCS duties and improve our sets of macros. We then ran through a test session on an off frequency while discussing what was happening on Zoom. We all came away with some good lessons learned and some great discussion and notes. This was all based around the ERIN digital net. I'm definitely interested in putting it into practice, and I'm pretty sure they are too. Welcome back from the field, sir!

@ Stephen

Interesting propagation tonight, I could hear two other QSO?s on the same frequency as the net. We?ll see how 75 meters works next week.
-
I've tried twice to download the "2025 Interwiz goes dark update 10_1__2024.docx" file, but both times, it is zero bytes. Might want to check into that - the Countdown to Chaos continues.
-
Yeah, I posted a PDF version and need to post a word version. Try this one.
-
That worked. Thanks!

Thank you for posting!
