Title: November 2021 ERIN Net SOI
Post by: JohnyMac on October 26, 2021, 09:50:23 PM
Here is the SOI for this coming Tuesday's net.

The next ERIN net will be Tuesday November 30, 2021, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net. The PACE for that net is as follows,

1) At 1900 hrs. eastern the digital net will commence.

Primary         3.588 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate       7.110 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250 1000 on the Waterfall
Contingency  This email thread
Emergency    Text. Do I have your cell phone number?

When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,

de your call/name/location/emergency traffic/ de your call

Once the NCS has gathered check-in's he/she will post the check-in's for corrections or additional check-in's.

The NCS will then start the reports portion of the digital net. Report format will be,

de your call/name/location/traffic if any/your report for around your AO, Covid, unrest, military movement, etc/weather/de your call

2) At 2000 hrs the voice net will commence.

Primary         3.969 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air
Alternate       7.251 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air
Contingency  This email thread
Emergency    Text. Do I have your cell phone number?

The above SOI will be used at first, if the interwize is taken down through Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions. Then we will develop and share a revised SOI.

In 15-minutes I am off to Philly as my mom is in the hospital and I need to be there for a few days.

I am bringing my 817 and may be on the phone net Tuesday night however, I will not be on the digital net. I need someone to be the NCS for the digital and or phone net.

One of you may want to be the phone NCS for north of the MD line while another south of the MD line.

I do not know, talk it through amongst yourselves.

Thanks gents.

Hope everything goes well, JM. MrsPete hit a deer last night and there's a 50/50 chance the car is totaled. Probably not going to be on the net tonight.

Yeah, I monitored the digital Net and copied everything. I tuned all over the place on 80 meters and didn't hear anything that sounded like ERIN.

Sir John sent me a synopsis of the digital net. Once I have a free minute I will summarize and post here.

Funny story...I brought my 817 with me and planned to participate in who ever was NCS last night. I pulled out my 75-meter endfed QRP antenna last night in plenty of time to deploy and tune into the net. Aaaaaah, once I laid it out on the ground I noticed that I had brought the 40-meter antenna rather than the 75/80.

Oh the best laid plans of mice and men.  :troutSlap:

Thanks all that participated .

Great digital net with nine checkins.

Gas reports ranged from $3.15 (OH) to $3.63 (NE PA) a gallon. Shelves in the super market looked OK but not near pre pandemic levels. In my AO we have no fresh turkeys and when I asked the butcher whether he was going to receive any this year he said "yes" but only around 100-lbs. WHAT? That's like 5, 20-lb turkeys.  Frozen are fine BUT prices are $.99 a pound vs. last year at $.69 a pound.

Weather was milder than usual ranging from 72 to 64 across the region.

Last, if you like bread and such made with wheat, rye or even corn, buy the appropriate flour now as future growth in those grains is poor in the SW/lower south of the country. Buy now regret latter.

We only had three stations on the phone net.  However, the reports I heard was similar to the digital net updates.

So there you go. I appreciate more than you know the stations who participate every Tuesday.

This is just a thought I had since I've been participating in the AmRRON digital nets as well: It might be beneficial to have a standardized form to share info.

Something like
Call Sign / Name / AO
Gas Price / Diesel Price
Product Shortages
etc.

Also, for the voice net, the time conflicts with the AmRRON digital training net once the time changes which is what might be impacting voice participation. 0100Z is what they run.

Just my $0.02

All ERIN nets are well worth input from folks who participate. Thank you sir!

I monotored the digital net and copied everything. Now, as for the Phone net. There must have been some kind of interference here because the only station that I could get 100% copy on was the 5 station. Noise was a phase shifting steady S 9. It was like a slow rolling phase shift static. I knew Johnny was there but after I made contact with him just before the Net began, he was in and out of the noise. I used every magic trick in the IC 7300 to clean it up but itg was a no go.

I copied JohnyMac on the digital, but no one could copy me. Didn't hear anyone on the voice net, very noisy here, hoping our power line problem is not back. Our electric company does precisely zero maintenance, we have transformers from the early 1960's that the insulation on the leads is crumbling off. I was listening to a shortwave station earlier in the day, that was very clear, but also thousands of watts.

I'll try again next week.

ERIN had a good turnout for the digital net of I think seven folks and a weak turnout for the phone at four folks. As PKv and FF have already stated there was a lot of noise. It was "OK" before 2000 hrs. then it went south quickly except for folks in NC and MS. Oh well, the life of a ham operator.

At a 10,000-foot level the reports where that things have not changed much in petrol prices however, one station saw a small reduction. I think it was NC. Depleted quantities of items in the grocery stores with limited outs.

This past Sunday, when MrsMac and I do most of our shopping for the week, shelves were depleted but still had product. The one area that looked like a hurricane had blown through was canned vegetables, canned tomato products, and pasta/noodle selections. Most of these products are not traditional Thanksgiving fare. Either the store was having problems getting these items or folks are stocking up for any disruption in food.

Paper products were in stock but light - Not much depth.

I went looking for some lard as I did not render any this year after we butchered our hog, and could not find any. I asked a store employee and he told me they order it but it never comes. No worries, at a MAG meeting that night a neighbor gave me a quart jar of lard. Thank you sir!

The store had no roasting chickens and have had none for weeks. They had an over abundance of frozen turkeys and only maybe 7 or 8 fresh turkeys out on display. The price was $2.29 a pound. I bought a 23-lb one. MrsMac had a store coupon that brought the price down to .99 cents a pound.

Anybody want to add their observations to these reports, please do so.

Gas prices here are stable as JM said, Price for 87 octane in NY has stayed at $3.53 for several weeks now. I had occasion to go into walmart Monday morning and while the shelves are stocked fairly well, some items are missing or spread out to look fuller. The biggest one I noticed is spray paint- the aisle is almost completely empty and has been for a couple months now. Other stores I've been to have stock but I think it's due to much lower turnover. A weird item was Chex snack mix- couple weeks ago they had lots of it, including the large pack of individual bags. This week, not a single bag anywhere in the store.

As far as travel goes, my son flew out of Syracuse yesterday, they sat on the taxiway for almost 2 hours for a "computer problem" before actually taking off. Not sure what the actual issue was, but I don't believe "official" explanations anymore without concrete proof.  :tinfoil:

Weather has been seasonal here, some snow flurries but no significant accumulations yet, as the ground isn't frozen yet. The interstate going to Syracuse was pretty sketchy, some hard snow squalls and not enough trucks. Every digital sign along the highway was showing that they're looking to hire plow drivers. Same problem here in PA, apparently CDL drivers don't want to work ridiculous hours for pretty low pay, then get laid off in the spring. Especially around here, where they can work for the gas companies with good pay and benefits.

Most of the places around here are right at the $3.29 mark.  Went to town yesterday afternoon and the closest to me (Sheetz and Kroger) had DROPPED a penny to $3.28.

Wife noted it just as I did and if we were not in the car might have fell out in the floor over the shock.

PLEASE BE AWARE, I WILL NOT BE NCS FOR EITHER THE DIGITAL OR PHONE THIS COMING ERIN NET.

I have a special event that I must attend. I hope that someone will step up and be NCS for each mode of comms. The plan is to return as ERIN net NCS on Tuesday November 30th.

If you did please post a synopsis of the reports here. Thanks

Shoot, I missed your post JM, I would've taken the net. Tuned in at 1840, didn't hear anything until 1915, figured propagation was bad and I couldn't hear anyone. Didn't have much to report other than gas prices going up as normal for the holiday weekend. I have to work Thursday night, so I'll be in the shopping area early in the morning on Friday. Not buying anything this week, but I can see what the crowds are like. I'd expect much lower numbers, thanks to POOPUS and his insane policies.

I have the net preamble and will put it in macros so I'm prepared to be NCS when the need arises.

The clubs annual raffle ticket drawing was last night. Good take this year. GREAT turn out at last nights meeting too.  ;)

I knew that Johhny wasn't going to be available for the net but I tuned in to both the Digital and the Phone. Nope, nothing on either one. Anyway, my report would have been "Same old same old." The only thing odd that I've noticed is "TWINKIES". Where are all the Twinkies? I can't find the 12 pack boxes of individual Twinkies anywhwere. Oh, sure there are a few 2 pack Twinkies here and there but when I want a Twinkie, I just want ONE. I did a bit more sorting of supplies last night and have determined that I'm the most unorganized person on the planet. Why did I find 5 bottles of Liquid Hand Soap in a box full of Raman Noodles? I also found lots of alkaline batteries in another container but I was able to move them into the container that has a ton of other batteries. What? I also found more cigarette lighters. OK, you can never have enough cigarette lighters.

I saw a comment about hieroglyphics when he changed modes tonight.

Make sure you have RXID turned on, if the sender changes modes its a good idea to have TXID on. It should auto sync this way

For those with a "large amount" of traffic, its worth bumping up to MFSK32 (like I should have done). Also, next time, I won't use FLMSG

I turned the radio and computer on and cop[ied the digital net but the wife sent me to ntown to get supper and it was after 8 when I got back. However, I found the phone net and tried to listen. There was a terrible phase shift going on and I could only hear several stations. Johnny was very hit and miss. I hoped the band would change so I could check in but that didn't happen. Hmmmm..... Maybe next week will be better.

I could hear the NCS fine, and several other stations, however they couldn't hear me, even with the amp.  Quick AO report, temp this morning is 42 degrees, partly sunny. Gas is at $2.97/gallon. No major chinese virus activity, and only a small minority wearing masks.  Was at Wallyworld on Sunday, and there were numerous blank spots, i.e., no waffle/pancake mix, iodized salt, etc.  Retail prices continue to climb, feed prices are increasing about $0.50 per 50 lb. bag each month.
