Based on the great response we had with the ERIN (Eastern Region Information Network) net in January, not only from folks that participate in the QSO but by listeners who do not have their license, I will start a new thread for the SOI each month. I am just trying to keep the comments on the thread relevant.

The second net of the new month will be Tuesday February 23, 2021, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net. The PACE for that is as follows,

Primary 3.588 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate 7.035 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250 1000 on the Waterfall
Contingency This email thread

When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,

de your call/name/location/ de your call

Once the NCS has gathered check-in's he/she will post the check-in's for corrections or additional check-in's.

The NCS will then start the reports portion of the digital net. Report format will be,

de your call/name/location/traffic if any/your report for around your AO, Covid, unrest, military movement, etc/weather/de your call

2) At 2000 hrs the voice net will commence.

Primary 3.968 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air
Alternate 7.238 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air

The propagation predictor is still reporting that 75/80-meters is the best band to use going forward. 40-meters seems to be best right now for folks south of the GA/FL border. I will try to be on 7.238 Mhz LSB at 1845 hrs. eastern but do not let that stop anybody from taking on the ERIN NCS prior to that time if I cannot make it. You can take reports and then email them to me here via PM. Important info will be passed onto the digital and voice nets.

On or about March 1, 2021, I will be posting an updated SOI for if the interwize is taken down through the Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions. Last month I publicly posted that SOI. This month it will be sent to individuals that only participate regularly on the ERIN net - Digital & Phone. If you are a listener because you do not have the equipment or an amateur radio license, PM me and I will send to you the SOI also. Yupper, ya' got to play today to play in an emergency.

I will report that while it was pretty chilly here today (high temp about 50) with a brisk wind; we do not have any snow.

I could copy Johny well on the digital net. One the phone net the NCS was tough copy. I could hear PK, the MS station and the GA station all well. The southern stations all sounded great, like we were on AM. PK, your audio was extremely clear, the 7300 is great, with a nice, mellow sound.

Thanks Jackalope. When I used my Heil ICM mike on the IC 718, it sounded fine but I found that on the IC 7300 it sounds like a more expensive mike. I got one of the locals to listen to me and tell me to add or subtract the bass and treble TX controls until it sound more like my natural voice. I had the Compressor on and set at about halfway up. When I'm 20 over 9, I turn the compressor off and it mellows out a bit more. I liked the 718 but I love the 7300.

I've got to agree with you regarding the IC-7300, it's a modern classic transceiver. The IC-7300 is literally a quantum leap in the evolution of amateur HF radios. The Heil microphones are generally superb, the iCM is excellent and in use with the 7300 at my station. Heil also sells a handie-talkie headset, don't bother with them, they're cheap Chinese garbage.

We had three folks on the digital net and five on the phone net.

Jackalope, you were just above the noise for me and 95% readable.

I miss Cooter as he can usually hear us but can not TX on 75/80-meters.

Just thinking out-loud here. Maybe I should be NCS for the digital and PKv be NCS for Phone. I hear him damn well always and all you folks hear him south of the M/D-line.

I don't think so. All you guys just need to buy a $25 Hamstick and put up about 30 feet. I put mine up just to catch the local guys and the damn thing went world wide. The Coax will cost you more than the antenna.

We had six folks that checked into the digital net. Great Job!

Looking at the phone net, we had six folks also that checked in.

I was stoked that I heard you Cooter and Jackalope this evening. Sorry if I dropped into the noise Jackalope. It was W3OOF's fault.

The next ERIN net will be March 2, 2021, unless the internet goes down

I will start a new thread for that net.

I've tried to check in to the digital net, but no luck. I can usually copy the NCS, but it was marginal tonight. It was rough copy on the phone net, but I got about 75%.
