The SitRepNet Project
« on: August 20, 2024, 03:27:26 PM »
This is a project that I've been working on over the past week, and since it was, in large part, inspired by what I see in the ERIN net, I figured that some folks here may like to see it.

Here's the web page that I've set up for it - https://volusiacountyprepping.com/sitrepnet/  - You'll find PDF docs, a sample SitRep that I sent to the ERIN net, and a ZIP file with the macros, etc.

Here's a quick summary of the SitRepNet project:

The SitRepNet project aims to build the infrastructure for a decentralized series of HF digital nets for exchanging Situation Reports and Status Reports (SitRep, StatRep) on approximately a regional level.

?    Not a replacement for any existing net(s)
?    No formal connection with any existing net(s), but cooperation and sharing traffic is strongly encouraged.
?    Not currently planned as a regularly scheduled net, but rather as a simple template that can be used when needed. Occasional nets will be held for testing and familiarization.
?    Anticipated coverage areas are the FEMA/FCC regions. It is not intended for wider coverage.
?    Purpose is the decentralized distribution of Situation and Status reports.
?    Objective is to pass SitReps and StatReps in a minimum amount of time.
?    Focus is on efficiency, simplicity, and standard formats.
?    Anticipated use is in a situation where normal means of communications are not available, with a high likelihood of grid-down conditions.
?    Net is handled by a primary NCS only ? does not use Assistant NCS.
?    Macros are available for download (see links below), and all are encouraged to download and add to their FLDIGI macros.
?    All SitReps and StatReps are sent in plain text, using MFSK32, FLMSG, and the standard ICS-213 form.
?    Frequency will be in the 40 meters or 80 meters band.
?    Net Day and Start Time is determined by time zone and local consensus, as well as the activities of other nets.[/li][/list]

There are folks here with a lot of digital net experience, and I hope you'll pass along any comments or suggestions you might have. Thanks!
Also, a big Thank You to JohnyMac for doing the hard work of setting up ERIN, which is what this is based on.

AmRRON is already doing this on off-week Thursdays (AmRRON weeks 2,4,5). It started with the Eastern region and has now evolved to include Central and Mountain. I don't recall if the Pacific region is doing it or not.

More of a heads up than anything else.

AmRRON has some awesome capabilities and resources, which is why I'm part of AmRRON Corps, and have been a member since 2019. I've been pretty regular checking into the AmRRON nets, but there are some very important differences between what AmRRON (and other nets) are doing, and what I've been working on. The SitRepNet project is definitely not trying to duplicate or replace any existing net. There's nothing really "special" or unique about what I'm doing either - it just fits into a niche that hasn't been filled. Hopefully, that niche will never truly need to be filled, but it's there just in case.

Updated to ver. 1.1 - mostly fixing goof-ups that I didn't catch the first time, and a bit more added to the web page description.
