The next ERIN(2) net will be Tuesday April 29
, 2025, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net.
The PACE for the digital net is as follows,
1) At 1900E hrs. digital net (NCS is usually on frequency at 1850E hrs.) will commence.
Primary 7.110 Mhz SB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate 3.588 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall

When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,
de your call, your call/name/location/W-TFC or No-TFC/ de your call
All traffic (TFC) will be passed via MFSK32. I suggest using the FLmsg ICS-213 or the AmRRON Custom forms.
NCS will convert mode from C-4/250 (Contestia 4/250) to MFSK32 and then instruct check-ins one at a time to pass TFC.
Once TFC is complete, NCS will return mode back to C-4/250 for the wrap up of the QSO.
At 2000E hrs. there will be a voice (phone) net
2) At 2000E hrs. (I am typically on frequency at 1950E hrs.) will commence.
Primary 7.193 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air
Alternate 3.898 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air

The above SOI will be used at first, if the interwiz is taken down through Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions. Then we will develop and share a revised SOI.

(2) A quick history of ERIN (Eastern, Region, Information, Network). Just after President Trump declared a state of emergency, March 2020, I was asked by NC Scout (Brushbeater.org) to NCS a Covid-19 net, as we were worried that misinformation, intentional or unintentional, was coming out of the main stream media. The net was five days a week, Monday through Friday and it was a voice net (phone).
June of the same year, the net was reduced to three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. By August it was reduced to one day a week, Tuesday evening's at 2000E Hrs. phone only.
As digital grew in popularity, I introduced a digital net at 1900E Hrs. the same night starting in 2021.
These two nets have been every Tuesday night since January 2021 with only a few interruptions thanks to the NCS volunteers.
The purpose of these nets is to do the following,
> Fellowship, connect hams with other hams,
> Testing of equipment and alternate modes,
> Pass traffic concerning ones AO. Traffic typically consists of,
- Localized weather report if out of the ordinary.
- Fuel availability & prices, petrol/Diesel.
- Civil unrest if any.
- Unusual Military movement if any.
- Other interesting local news.
> Training. To help hams become more confident in TXing & RXing, practice being a NC or ANC station, and
all other that
applies to prepare for a localized or national drama, and
> Serve as a conduit to connect hams who have radio equipment to sell or looking for.
I want to thank all the hams that regularly participate on these nets. I am looking for NCS (Net Control Station) volunteers, in case one day I am hit by a bus. :D

This coming Tuesday night (4/8/2025) I have to make a proposal to my township supervisors meeting between 1900E - 20000E hrs. The proposal is setting up a ARES room/corner in the townships new Municipal Building.
Consequently, I can not do my ERIN NCS duties for either digital or phone. I am looking for volunteers to do one of the nets or both.

Okay, okay, this is getting ridiculous!!!
I have to be at a mtg AGAIN Tuesday at 1900E - 2000E hrs. Tuesday's meeting is a combo mtg with Pennsylvania ARES & Red Cross. It is a AAR of an exercise we held statewide on April 5th. I tried to get out of it (Declined the invite), however, the head dude of the ARES side of the exercise just called and asked me to attend. Since he made the effort to call me, I feel I then need to attend.
This leaves a need for a NCS (AGAIN) for digital and in case I do not get off the mtg. by 2000E hrs. a need for a NCS for the phone net too.
Drop a "yes you can NCS digital or phone" here.

Thanks for taking the net! Looking at poweroutage.us , it looks like our Fearless Leader is getting the stuffing pounded out of his area by this stormfront,

with over a half million Pennsylvania's citizens without power. Listening to the 40 meter band QRN ( natural radio noise/lightning) with our clear skies here in Virginia, the lightening strikes are VERY LOUD way down here! Fortunately, the strong modes we use in FLdigi all have strong FORWARD ERROR CORRECTION. Passing this sort of traffic in voice would have been a nightmare.

I guess that is also why I'm not hearing anything on the ERIN phone net. I've had lightning eat up an HF rig and it ain't fun.

I am sorry that I could not NCS either net last evening. I just didn't want to push my luck and have a radio or amp go "poof".
Last nights storm was a weird one. At first there was no thunder or lightening but my noise level was high on the transceiver, around 20 and then about every 30 or so seconds a static crash. Then the lightening started to hit all around us but no thunder. At which time W3OOF ran to our bedroom and stuck her head under our bed. Ever see a 70-lb Dutch Shepherd try to squeeze under a bed. :facepalm: Then the thunder began.
I checked out the barometer and that was falling faster than my hopes of getting a date with a super model. The air smelled of ozone and then the rain came but it was a light rain not a deluge which I would have expected.
Like I have written, it was a weird one for sure.
Reports from the 4B's MAG and radio club members had similar reports. Some with no rain while some farther southwest towards Wilkes Barre (About 70-miles) had heavy winds and lots of heavy rain. East of me, almost nothing.
Anyway, there you go. A short AAR of last evening's festivities. As we move into the later parts of spring, I suspect we will see more of these types of storms and again in late August.
As a side note, it is not uncommon for the valley that runs through Scranton and Wilkes Barre to have tornadoes this time of year and again in late summer. Similarly north of us in New York, the valley that runs along the Susquehanna river starting in Horse Heads then running through Binghamton and then east into the Catskills experiences tornadoes too. It is nice to live in the mountains. :dance: :dance:

I typed this script up a few weeks ago, thought I'd share it here, it is the NCS Script for the ERIN Voice Net - only a guide.

WOW Hope :thumbsUp: thank you for doing that. Many folks have asked me to write a script however, for what ever reason, I never did it. I tend to have a gift for gab so I guess I thought that others would just wing it too. MrsMac comments often that I will pretty much talk to anybody especially at the grocery store. :facepalm:
My only suggestion on the script would be to use 'Arial' :lmfao: however LEAVE IT!. ;D MrsMac claims I am picky too. :DrillSgt:
With your permission Hope, I will add the script to the monthly SOI.

Totally agree. Hope picked-up from scratch , then organized the net during the storm. This is EXACTLY what is needed when real world event preempt the schedule. HuuuuRah! for Hope. Well done!

I looked for the net but couldn't find it. I wasn't slacking. I just didn't hear what I thought was the net. JohnyMac, the news reported that the Pa. folks West and Southwest of you got their butts kicked. It was a wise choice to stay off the air.
