Title: Annual, 13 Colonies Amateur Radio Contest
Post by: JohnyMac on June 30, 2022, 09:13:37 AM
It is that time of year again for the Annual 13 Colonies amateur Radio Contest (http://www.13colonies.us/). This contest is my second favorite contest that I participate in with Field Day being number one.

The 13 Colonies contest is not typically a club contest but an individual contest. However, probably 80% of my club will be participating. Some will be at home while others will take to the field. Some will be using normal transceivers while others will be using small QRP (Low power) radios. Some folks will be using alternative power like batteries while other will be using a 110/120 volt power supplies. Some folks will be using specialized antennas where others will be using more traditional antennas like, yagi's, dipoles, verticals, etc.

The best part of this contest is, it is being held over seven days. It starts July 1, 2022 at 0900 hrs. eastern and runs through July 7, 2022, 2359 hrs. eastern. This is nice as you can come in and out working the radio as you see fit.

This year, I will be working the contest with a Yaesu 817nd QRP radio. The maximum the radio puts out is 5-watts. I will also be using a backpacking QRP end-fed sloping antenna. My power will be supplied using a deep cycle 12-volt battery.

The antenna will be sloping to the south for the colonies south of the Mason-Dixon line. Then turned NE for the colonies NE of me. Last, I will slope it towards Great Britain and France early in the morning , where the extra credit stations live.

So there you go folks. Please post any 13 colony questions, results, fun stuff here.

73 & God Bless,
JohnyMac

Got all, including the 3 bonus stations. I didn't use 5 watts though :)
