Stomach Issues
« on: August 11, 2016, 08:33:01 AM »
I am at the end of a week long stomach issue drama. In essence I was constipated thanks to my stupidity.

First off, I am not supposed to eat nuts or seeds. Somehow they get lodged in my lower intestines which causes a painful period of constipation. Well MrsMac had purchased a can of salted peanuts for a Vietnamese dish she was making. One night in a moment of weakness I indulged and VIOLA - Two days later I was doubling over in pain.

Recognizing my symptoms, I went to the meds locker to get some laxative and there was none.  :facepalm: Plenty of anti-diarrhea medicine but no laxatives.

Well off to the store I went, ~30 minutes away, to buy a bottle of "Milk of Magnesia".

Six days post my first symptoms, I am pain free & regular.

My point of this subject is to remind everyone to add laxative and constipation remedies to their medical preps.

I have no idea why we missed this one.

FYI:  You can buy the active ingredient in Milk of Magnesia in powder form...it is much cheaper, lighter, and stores more compactly than those fragile (glass) green bottles.  Just search "magnesium citrate powder" on amazon.  I use the Now brand in smaller amounts as a magnesium supplement (added to drinking water)...and yes, as little as 1 heaping quarter tsp. will send you to the toilet in an hour or two.  For use as a magnesium/electrolyte supplement I add ~1/8th tsp. to a gallon of water.

@JM
Sounds like you have diverticulitis.

What was the Sec of Ag's comments a while back?  Tight . . . . ., loose shoes and a warm place to  . . . . ..   He was run out of town shortly after it.  More on context and full comment than that part.  Many times just needing that warm place is mighty fine.  Often it don't matter if its not so warm.

But that idea of addition is great.  Wife had similar issue a bit back.  Fortunately I had added those things to the cabinet with no real idea.  Just figured they might be good to have.  They are.

Glad to hear you got things empty.

Exactly TG. I use to carry the anti in my basic band-aide kit when I walked the trails. Now a few constipation pills wouldn't hurt either.
