Here is a great example of the media hyping the news. One of the statistics on their analysis was that there will be 39,000 Americans killed by guns this year.

That number is about accurate.  Figure about 13K from intentional involving a second person, a small number accidental and about 26K from self inflicted.

I am confident they did not note anything about that in the details.
